  • Patent number: 6149230
Abstract: A bicycle saddle for seating a bicycle rider includes a shell, foam padding, leather cover, a suspension rail, and a seating surface including right and left sides, divided by a substantially V-shaped open surface extending from a rear edge of the saddle forwardly, and a longitudinal depression extending from the apex of the V-shaped open space forwardly to the anterior portion of the saddle. The right and left sides of the saddle thereby provide laterally spaced apart left and right posterior support surfaces for supporting the right and left ischeal tuberosities of the bicycle rider, respectively.

  • Patent number: 5765912
Abstract: An off-road bicycle having a resilient nose for cushioning impacts when a rider shifts his weight forward on a bicycle. The saddle, constructed from a shell having a relatively narrow nose and wide rear section and a suspension rail attached to the front and rear parts of the seat, includes a resilient pad placed underneath the nose between the shell and the front end of the rail. A rigid shim placed over the rail distributes a load from the rail across a substantial surface area of the pad.

  • Patent number: 5603521
Abstract: A mechanically joined steering assembly for supporting the wheel of a wheeled vehicle for steering movement relative to the frame of the vehicle. The steering assembly includes a crown attached by mechanical fasteners to blades and to a central steering portion joining the assembly to the frame of the vehicle. The parts joined are the blades (16), steerer (14), crown (12), and reinforcements (24). Mechanical fasteners serviceable with common tools provide a reinforced steering assembly of greater strength than welded or brazed constructions. This assembly allows the use of metallic, advanced composite, or thermoplastic components. Adjustments of axle location and steering geometry are made by sliding blades (16) up or down in crown (12). Blades (16), steerer (14), and crown (12) retain the original cold drawn strength of the metal used by mechanically joining without brazing or welding.

  • Patent number: 5362126
Abstract: A bicycle saddle comprising a molded nylon saddle shell which includes a pair of metal support rails mated to mounts formed along the underside of the shell, dense foam padding material selectively arranged on a top surface of the shell, and cover material stretched over the padding material and secured to the underside of the shell. The saddle is further defined as having a narrow front portion which extends rearwardly to a broader mid-portion until about the last 1/2 to 1/3 portion of the rear saddle area where the sides of the saddle are trimmed down to eliminate the normally widely flared rear side portions associated with conventional racing saddles. The top surface contour of the saddle is substantially flat. The reduced surface area of the saddle afforded by the specially trimmed down side portions and flat back provide a greatly increased freedom of movement in getting on and off the saddle.
