  • Patent number: 11500394
Abstract: An example method includes: receiving information indicative of a desired aircraft cruise insertion point comprising achieving a desired cruise altitude for an aircraft within a predetermined period of time from departure, or within a predetermined distance from departure; determining a desired airspeed for the aircraft; prior to a flight of the aircraft, determining, based on the desired airspeed and the desired aircraft cruise insertion point, a climb trajectory for the aircraft; and during a climb flight phase of the aircraft, varying climb thrust of an engine of the aircraft to follow the climb trajectory and achieve the desired aircraft cruise insertion point.

  • Patent number: 10671092
Abstract: An example method includes: receiving information indicative of a desired aircraft cruise insertion point comprising achieving a desired cruise altitude for an aircraft within: a predetermined period of time from departure, or within a predetermined distance from departure; receiving information indicative of an estimated weight of the aircraft upon the aircraft reaching the desired cruise altitude; determining a desired airspeed for the aircraft based on the information indicative of the estimated weight of the aircraft; prior to a flight of the aircraft, determining, based on the desired airspeed and the desired aircraft cruise insertion point, a climb trajectory for the aircraft; and during a climb flight phase of the aircraft, varying climb thrust of an engine of the aircraft to follow the climb trajectory and achieve the desired aircraft cruise insertion point.

  • Patent number: 8615335
Abstract: A method is presented for controlling thrust generated by aircraft engines. Engine thrust is controlled based on aircraft groundspeed and airspeed during the initial part of takeoff. Limiting thrust at low groundspeed during the initial phase of takeoff has significant benefits that reduce engine stress during this brief but critical phase leading to flight. Logical elements combine both groundspeed and airspeed in such a way that the operator perceives a smooth progressive thrust increase consistent with normal engine operation.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 17, 2008
Date of Patent: December 24, 2013
    Assignee: The Boeing Company
Inventors: Lyle M. Couey, Keith D. Parsons

  • Patent number: 7031811
Abstract: A system and method are provided for precisely adjusting individual aircraft airspeed system in order to provide more accurate cruise Indicated Airspeed (IAS). The system includes a flight data computer, an autopilot, and airspeed displays. The flight data computer includes a first component that records in-service data to determine actual fuel mileage for the aircraft for comparison to a production rating fuel mileage. The flight data computer also includes a user interface that allows a user to set a Mach trim value based on the comparison and a third component that adjusts indicated airspeed based on the determined Mach trim value. The autopilot and airspeed displays receive the adjusted indicated airspeed.
