Patent number: 7406904Abstract: A cutting assembly is provided that is adapted for use in combination with a container for dispensing a web of material. The dispensing container includes a plurality of adjoining sidewalls which define an external geometric profile. The cutting assembly includes a guide disposed in combination with a sidewall of the container and a cutter adapted for traversing within the elongate guide in a desired cutting direction. Furthermore, guide and bearing surfaces, formed on the guide and cutter, respectively, cooperate to permit sliding motion therebetween in the cutting direction and interlock to delimit displacement of the cutter relative to the guide in directions orthogonal to the cutting direction. A portion of the guide and cutter is disposed proximal to a corner of the container and recessed relative to its external geometric profile to facilitate container storage and display while additionally producing an aesthetically pleasing appearance.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 2003Date of Patent: August 5, 2008Assignee: Sonoco Development, Inc.Inventors: Keith E. Publication number: 20080135440Abstract: A system for dispensing packages is provided. The system includes a dispensing container having a plurality of packages arranged vertically therein. The container has top and bottom panels and side panels extending upwardly between the top and bottom panels. The side panels have rear portions spaced apart from each other and converge forwardly towards a front apex. A dispensing opening is defined by an upper front portion of each of the side panels and a front portion of the top panel. Each of the packages has a height that is substantially larger than the package width and depth. The dispensing opening defines a mouth of the container sized to limit the number of packages that can be simultaneously withdrawn from the container.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 6, 2006Publication date: June 12, 2008Inventors: Keith E. Publication number: 20040232145Abstract: A frame for packaging goods consists essentially of long, extruded edge pieces, and corner pieces. Each corner piece has projections that fit into the ends of two edge pieces, to form a rectangular frame, or three edge pieces, to form a cuboidal frame. The edge pieces are preferably L-shaped, and oriented to cradle the edges of a rectangular object fitted within the frame. In one embodiment, the projections may be in the form of three round pins in an L shape to fit into one L-shaped edge piece. In another embodiment, the corner pieces consist of two halves hinged together, so that the sides of the frame can be folded out into a straight line without being separated.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 19, 2003Publication date: November 25, 2004Applicant: Sonoco Development, Inc.Inventors: Keith E. Publication number: 20040007612Abstract: A reinforcing member made of unitary construction is described. The reinforcing member has an outer face connected to an inner face by a middle frame. The inner face includes a first flange extending in a first direction from a first portion of the frame and a resiliently flexible second flange extending in an opposite direction from a flexible second portion of the frame. In use, an installer flexes the second flange and second frame portion so that the inner face will pass through the hand hole. Flexation may involve movement of the first flange toward the second flange, rotation of the second flange away from the outer face, or a combination of both. Once flexed, the inner face is inserted through the hand hole and the second flange is allowed to resume its unflexed position.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 13, 2003Publication date: January 15, 2004Inventors: James E. Patent number: 5950913Abstract: A composite container for dough or other expandable product includes a hollow cylindrical body formed of composite material, a pair of end closures for sealing the open end of the container body, a separator disk disposed in the body and dividing the container into a first tubular portion for containing the product and a second tubular portion. A plurality of ingredient cups are stacked bottom-against-top in the second portion of the container body. Each cup is a cup-shaped member having a cylindrical tubular side wall, a bottom wall closing one end of the side wall, and an open end defined by an upper edge of the side wall. A membrane engages the upper edge to sealingly close the cup with an additional ingredient such as condiment, icing, spices, etc., therein. The bottom of one cup stacks on the upper edge of another cup so that the one cup is not supported by the membrane of the other cup. The separator disk engages an annular flange on the upper edge of the adjacent cup.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 1998Date of Patent: September 14, 1999Assignee: Sonoco Development, Inc.Inventors: Keith R.
