  • Patent number: 8323675
Abstract: A soft tissue prosthesis for repairing a defect of an abdominal wall or a pelvic cavity wall, comprising: a three-dimensional mesh sheet comprising at least two types of yarn interlooped or intertwined to define at least two layers, wherein one of the at least two layers is substantially non-biodegradable and porous to allow for tissue ingrowth and another of the at least two layers is substantially biodegradable; and an adhesion barrier in the form of a film, foam or gel, the adhesion barrier polymerized to, and entrapping therein, at least some of the yarns of the substantially biodegradable layer, the substantially biodegradable layer making a connection between the adhesion barrier and the substantially non-biodegradable layer to decrease the likelihood of delamination therefrom, the adhesion barrier being an external layer on a first side of the prosthesis and the substantially non-biodegradable layer being an external layer on the side of the prosthesis opposite the first side, the substantially biodegr

  • Publication number: 20100121261
Abstract: Dry powders containing bioresorbable hyaluraonic acid (“HA”) are applied directly to a desired location in a patient wound to reduce adhesions, without first forming a hydrated gel. HA includes hyaluronic acid that has been modified, cross-linked or combined with other substances. it is important to control the size of the particles in the powder. The powder is essentially dry and blowable powder. At least 90% of powder particles have a maximum dimension between 30 ?m and 1 mm.

  • Publication number: 20030187381
Abstract: This invention provides a bioresorbable foam packing device for post-operative use, especially to separate and prevent adhesions between mucosal surfaces in the nasal cavity, to help control minimal bleeding, and to prevent lateralization of the middle turbinate.

    Publication date: October 2, 2003
    Applicant: Genzyme Corporation
Inventors: Keith E. Greenawalt, Dana A. Oliver
  • Publication number: 20030100955
Abstract: The surgical device has a non-bioabsorbable layer, generally in the form of a mesh for strength and ease of handling, and a bioabsorbable layer including urea derivatives of hyaluronic acid or carboxymethyl cellulose with the two layers bound by an adhesive. The surgical device may be used for tissue repair such as to seal an opening in a tissue of the body of a patient. The non-bioabsorbable layer integrates within the tissue, while the bioabsorbable layer prevent adhesion of the device to other tissues before it is absorbed by the body. Methods of manufacturing the device are also disclosed.
