  • Patent number: 9432924
Abstract: Systems, methods, and software for providing a preferred roaming list (PRL) to a wireless communication device are provided herein. In one example, a method of operating a wireless local area network (WLAN) device is presented. The method includes receiving a request for network access to the WLAN from a wireless communication device, identifying a PRL for the wireless communication device responsive to at least the request, where the wireless communication device can use the PRL to access a cellular communication service. The method also includes transferring the PRL to the wireless communication device.

  • Patent number: 8614966
Abstract: A wireless communication device wirelessly initiates data calls to access data channels in a wireless network. The wireless communication device wirelessly transfers data requests indicating a plurality of Uniform Resource Locators, and in response, wirelessly receives user data over the data channels. The wireless communication device determines performance data on a per-URL basis indicating if the data requests utilize existing data channels to receive the user data or if the data requests initiate new data calls to obtain new data channels to receive the user data. The wireless communication device processes the performance data to determine data call efficiency metrics on a per-URL basis.

  • Patent number: 8510802
Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein provide systems and methods for blocking the use of a PRL by a wireless device to access nodes of a network controller. In a particular embodiment, a method provides receiving an access request for the wireless device to access the home wireless network and transferring an authentication request for the wireless device to an authentication system. The method further provides the authentication system receiving the authentication request, determining that the wireless device should not be allowed to access the home wireless network, and transferring a negative authentication response to the network controller. In response to receiving the authentication response, the method provides the network controller transferring a negative access response to the wireless device. In response to receiving the access response, the method provides the wireless device blocking the use of a Preferred Roaming List by the wireless device to access nodes of the network controller.

  • Patent number: 8379572
Abstract: A method and system to allow wireless devices, such as wirelessly-equipped digital cameras, to gain wireless packet-data connectivity and to interact with a media management server, such as a photo server. A wireless carrier distributes multiple devices all having the same set of radio access data (e.g., mobile identification number and electronic serial number), and all having shared or unique pre-registration data. Any such device can then readily use the shared radio access data to acquire radio connectivity and can then use the pre-registration data to gain access to the media management server. The first time such a device connects with the media management server using the pre-registration data, the server will engage in a online account registration session with the device and provision the device with post-registration data that the device can thereafter use to access the online account.

  • Patent number: 8265649
Abstract: A method and system for determining reporting the location of an originating telephone device. A location interoperability platform receives a signaling message from a switch, reflecting a call request from an originating device and carrying data indicating whether the originating device is a landline device or a wireless device. If the data indicates that the originating device is a landline device, then the location interoperability platform invokes a landline location-determination process to determine the location of the originating device. On the other hand, if the data indicates that the originating device is a wireless device, then the location interoperability platform invokes a wireless location-determination process to determine the location of the originating device. The location interoperability platform may then report the determined location to the called party, to help facilitate a location-based service such as emergency response.

  • Patent number: 7831216
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for implementing mobile-station-assisted low-cost-Internet-base-station—(LCIB) location determination. In an embodiment, an LCIB receives location information over an air interface from a mobile station, the location information reflecting a location of the mobile station. In response to receiving the location information, the LCIB uses the location information to determine its location.

  • Patent number: 7577443
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for implementing mobile-station and macro-network-aided location determination of a low-cost Internet base station (LCIB). In an embodiment, a location of a mobile station that is associated with an LCIB is determined. The location of the mobile station is used to determine a location of the LCIB.

  • Patent number: 7433682
Abstract: A system and methods for providing location based services to a mobile station in a cellular wireless system. The system includes components that interact with position determining equipment to locate the mobile station within a region that is defined by a service provider. Once the system determines what service is being requested by the mobile station, the system associates the position of the mobile station with a provider-defined region that encompasses the location of the mobile station. A feature of the invention is the manner in which the system associates the provider-defined regions by first determining how the service provider's regions are categorized. The system contacts the service provider for the region over the Internet, and requests information that is appropriate to the position of the mobile station. With this method and system, a mobile station may request information on services that are available in his vicinity.

  • Patent number: 7305090
Abstract: A method and system is disclosed for using common provisioning data to activate cellular wireless devices. A wireless carrier may distribute multiple wireless devices containing a common set of pre-activation provisioning data, such as a common MIN/ESN pair, as well as a unique post-activation data, such as a unique ESN. When such a device is powered on, it may use the common pre-activation provisioning data to gain RF access and then enter into a provisioning data session with a provisioning server. Through the provisioning server, the carrier may tie the device to a service account, and the device may acquire and store further post-activation data, such as a unique MIN. The device may thereafter engage in wireless communication service, using its post-activation ESN and MIN as a basis to gain RF access.
