  • Patent number: 11648741
Abstract: Methods of embedding an elongate susceptor within a thermoplastic body and systems that perform the methods are disclosed herein. The methods include extending the elongate susceptor such that an extended portion of the elongate susceptor extends between a guide structure and a body-contacting structure. The methods also include heating a segment of the elongate susceptor to produce a heated portion of the elongate susceptor. The methods further include pressing a leading region of the heated portion of the elongate susceptor through a body surface of the thermoplastic body and into the thermoplastic body. The methods also include operatively translating at least one of the guide structure, the body-contacting structure, and an application tool that includes the guide structure and the body-contacting structure along an embedment pathway for the elongate susceptor.

  • Publication number: 20220194017
Abstract: An induction welding coil includes a spine having a planar body with opposing ends, and a pair of prongs extending perpendicularly from the opposing ends of the spine. Each of the prongs has a planar body, wherein the spine and the pair of prongs are formed from a ferrite material to define a ferrite core. The induction welding coil further includes a coil wire having a plurality of winding that surround the planar body of the spine.

  • Patent number: 8486684
Abstract: A stable asparaginase solution is disclosed. In one aspect, drinking water is treated to reduce the level of chlorine to enhance the residual enzyme activity of asparaginase. The treatment can occur by removing chlorine constituents or by supplying additives that reduces the level of chlorine. Additives can include reducing agents and chlorine scavengers. Removal technologies can include use of activated carbon, ion exchange, and air stripping.

  • Publication number: 20100051419
Abstract: Disclosed is an improved system, method and apparatus for turning a bedded product to enhance the temperature uniformity of the product. In one aspect, the system is directed towards using a flow wheel to turn over a bed of hot product exiting a dehydrator. The improved system, method, and apparatus lowers the variability of temperature, moisture content, oil content and acrylamide levels in a bedded food product.

  • Patent number: 5134393
Abstract: A traffic control system comprising a traffic control strip extending along a traffic flow lane and having a plurality of luminants extending at spaced intervals in a linear fashion along the traffic control strip, a plurality of detectors positioned on the traffic control strip so as to detect vehicles passing in proximity thereto, a processor connected to the detectors and to the luminants in the traffic control strip. The traffic control strip is a clear strip of material rigidly affixed to the surface of the traffic lane. The traffic control strips include the electrical transmission lines extending from the detectors and the luminants to the processors. The luminants are a plurality of LEDs spaced in a linear array. The detector is an infrared transmitter/detector positioned at regular intervals along the traffic control strip. Vehicles passing along the traffic control strip may contain suitably positioned infrared transmitters and receivers for communication with the traffic control computers.

  • Patent number: 5088663
Abstract: A method of launching a payload comprising the steps of extending the payload on a line from an airplane, flying the airplane so as to cause the payload to follow the path of the airplane, turning the airplane so as to cause the payload to follow a curved path at the end of the line, and releasing the payload from the line when the payload attains a desired velocity. The step of extending comprises carrying the payload on the airplane, opening the airplane so as to release the payload, and lowering the payload on the line from the airplane. The step of turning comprises banking the airplane so as to cause the payload to sling outwardly and turning the airplane in an involute downward spiral path so as to cause the payload to accelerate upwardly. The desired 12 speed is orbital velocity. The step of releasing comprises firing an explosive bolt at the end of the line so as to separate the payload from the line.

  • Patent number: 4759404
Abstract: An apparatus for use in a microgravity environment for radiating waste heat using a multiphase mixture of gas and solid particles or dust as a heterodensity heat transfer medium. A conventional heat exchanger is in thermal contact with the heterodensity heat transfer medium, whereby the heat is imparted to the gas and the particles, whereupon the gas and particles are moved to a thin plate emission type radiator which absorbs heat from the particles and gas and radiates said heat into space. The heterodensity heat transfer's medium may be mobilized by modified centrifugal blowers throughout the system. A portion of the heterodensity medium may emit ionizing radiation to prevent the build-up of static charges in the solid phase of the heterodensity medium.
