Publication number: 20080144443Abstract: A global timepiece includes a transparent disk, which is arranged overhead the face of the timepiece, which has a New Day Line extending radially from the center outwardly to an indice indicating midnight. The transparent disk is operationally connected to a rotatable shaft, or other drive mechanism, by which it is moving the transparent disk 360° in a clockwise direction within 24 hours. The disk further includes an International Date Line indicia and time zone indicia represented by cities, or areas, or marks, representing a time zone geographically located within each corresponding time zone. Two windows for the indication of two successive dates are cut into the face. These windows are aligned astride in the New Day Line. A wheel is arranged beneath these windows and moves counterclockwise and indicates, on its circumferential top area, the relevant dates. By this wheel, the timepiece shows two successive dates in the windows and which world locations are in which date.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 24, 2006Publication date: June 19, 2008Inventor: Keith Herbert

Patent number: 7160591Abstract: An elongate tubular heat transfer element having a longitudinal tube axis that runs through the hollow interior of the heat transfer element. The heat transfer element includes a wall of monolithic construction having an outer surface and an inner surface. The wall is formed from a composite material including a matrix and rovings embedded in the matrix. The composite material is in contact with the hollow interior such that the inner surface determines a boundary of the hollow interior which extends longitudinally along the axis of the heat transfer element. The matrix is of a fluoropolymer having embedded therein rovings of boron-free chemically resistant glass fibres. The rovings include from about 20% to about 60% by volume based upon the volume of the composite material, rovings that extend longitudinally in a lengthwise direction parallel to the axis of the heat transfer element and rovings that extend spirally around the axis.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 2000Date of Patent: January 9, 2007Assignee: Security Composites LimitedInventors: Keith Herbert Dodd, Nicholas Jason Welton, Christopher Barry Price

Publication number: 20060171256Abstract: A global timepiece includes a 24 hour movement mechanism in a case, the mechanism has rotatable shaft(s) or other drive mechanism that extend through or around the face and is (are) connected to an hour hand, a minute hand, optionally a second hand, and a transparent disk. Optionally, a bezel rotatably connected to or inside the case has hour/minute indicia. The face can also define hour/minute indicia, as well as New Day Line indicia, having dual day and dual date windows on each side of the New Day Line. Optional features include a 24 hour alarm on the face. The transparent disk preferably is positioned above the face, rotates once every 24 hours, and contains International Date Line indicia; time zone indicia represented by cities or other indicia and Daylight Savings Time conversion indicia. Optionally, the case has a pair of connectors attached to opposing ends of the case to receive a pin to secure a wristband to the case.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 19, 2005Publication date: August 3, 2006Inventor: Keith Herbert

Patent number: 6560987Abstract: A shut-off valve for pressurized fluids in an air cooling/heating apparatus that includes at least one condenser and at least one fluid evaporator communicating with each other by a pipe. The valve includes two ducts each containing a restrictor coaxially formed with a capillary designed to cause rapid expansion of the fluid when it emerges from the capillary, thus allowing expansion of the fluid in either the heating or cooling mode. The valve further includes a duct for sampling the pressurized fluid before expansion during operation in either the heating or cooling mode.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2001Date of Patent: May 13, 2003Assignee: Parker-Hannifin CorporationInventors: Ross Edward Kreger, Keith Herbert Gifford, Scott David Gill, Daniele Casiraghi

Patent number: 5818982Abstract: A new class of fiber optic sensors based on nonlinear buckling of fibers and optical bend loss provide intrinsic, all-fiber displacement sensors which exhibit several unique properties. Primary among them is a sensing range from less than 1 .mu.m to several mm, which is convenient for many structural monitoring applications. This sensing range is also very convenient for many actuator and lever arm sensing applications. In addition, the sensors exhibit a very low temperature dependence of the response, and are easily configurable for a variety of novel applications. They may be implemented with single-mode, few mode, or highly multimode fibers, including plastic optical fiber (POF). Both step index and graded index profile fibers produce useful sensors with differing response characteristics.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 1996Date of Patent: October 6, 1998Inventors: Karl Friedrich Voss, Keith Herbert Wanser
