Patent number: 6548560Abstract: This invention is based upon the unexpected discovery that cured rubber can be devulcanized by heating it to a temperature of at least about 150° C. under a pressure of at least about 3.4×106 Pascals in the presence of a solvent selected from the group consisting of alcohols and ketones having a critical temperature within the range of about 200° C. to about 350° C. The molecular weight of the rubber can be maintained at a relatively high level if the devulcanization is carried out at a temperature of no more than about 300° C. This devulcanization technique does not significantly change the microstructure of the rubber. In other words, the devulcanized rubber can be recompounded and recured into useful articles in substantially the same way as was the original rubber.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2000Date of Patent: April 15, 2003Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CompanyInventors: Ronald Roy Kovalak, Lawrence Keith Hunt

Patent number: 6164571Abstract: This invention is based upon the unexpected discovery that the crosslinks in thermoset plastics can be broken by heating to a temperature of at least about 150.degree. C. under a pressure of at least about 3.4.times.10.sup.6 Pascals in the presence of 2-butanol. By utilizing the process of this invention, precious metals can be easily and economically recovered from electronic circuit boards. In this process, the crosslinks in the thermoset plastics in the circuit board break under conditions of heat and pressure in the presence of 2-butanol. After the crosslinks in the thermoset plastic break, the plastic material dissolves in the 2-butanol and can be removed by decanting. The remaining undissolved fiberglass mat and precious metal is removed by filtration, decanting or centrifugation. The precious metals which were entrapped in the thermoset plastic can be recovered from fiberglass on the circuit board by being melted.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 1999Date of Patent: December 26, 2000Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & rubber CompanyInventors: Ronald Roy Kovalak, Lawrence Keith Hunt

In other words, the devulcanized rubber can be recompounded and recurred into useful articles in substantially the same way as was the original rubber.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 1998Date of Patent: April 6, 1999Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CompanyInventors: Lawrence Keith Hunt, Ronald Roy Kovalak

Patent number: 4395251Abstract: A chain tensioning device comprises a pair of arms 2, 3 which are pivoted together and urged apart so that the arm 3 applies a tensioning force to a chain by means of a spring loaded cam block 5. A catch disc 9 and rod 8 arrangement is provided to prevent return movement of the spring loaded block and hence collapse of the arm 3 under load reversals of the chain.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1981Date of Patent: July 26, 1983Assignee: Borg-Warner LimitedInventors: Alan G. King, Keith Hunt

Patent number: 4046385Abstract: A record player comprises a motor-driven turntable having an associated general pick-up arm assembly and a control mechanism which includes a main cam serving not only for controlling movement of the pickup arm both during automatic operation of the player and during manual cueing. During a final part of its revolution, the main cam is detached from its positive drive and driven by preloaded spring means, its rotation being damped as by means of a liquid damping arrangement embodying part of the cam or by a frictional damping system in order to provide slow lowering of the pickup arm on to a record surface without the necessity for introducing a separate damping device between the cam and the pick-up arm as has heretofore been the practice.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 1975Date of Patent: September 6, 1977Assignee: Plessey Handel und Investments AGInventor: Brian Keith Hunt
