  • Patent number: 6240685
Abstract: A decorative building unit simulating a multi-pane, window or door. The decorative building unit is comprised of a glass support frame and a single glass panel having an outer surface mounted on or in the glass support frame. The glass panel has at least one simulated joint comprising at least two shallow spaced apart parallel grooves formed in the outer surface of the glass panel and a platform formed between the two spaced grooves. The size and spacing of glass support frame simulated muntins and platforms is such that, when mounted together, the simulated muntins and platforms align with each other to simulate a multi-pane beveled glass window or door.

  • Patent number: 6194055
Abstract: The present invention relates to a continuous transparent glass sheet having the appearance of a multi-pane structure. The glass sheet includes a glass panel having opposed surfaces first and second colored bands formed on at least one of the surfaces and intersecting one another. A plurality of parallel, immediately adjacent straight walled grooves is positioned on opposed sides of the colored band, the straight walled grooves positioned parallel to the colored band. Two of the straight walled grooves are positioned immediately adjacent the colored band. A remaining portion of the surface is not covered by the colored bands, such that the colored bands contrasts with the remaining portion of the surface to simulate the appearance of a plurality of muntins in the glass panel that divide the glass panel into a number of individual panes.

  • Patent number: 5853852
Abstract: A decorative glass sheet including a glass panel having an upper surface and a lower surface. An applique overlies a portion of the upper surface of the glass panel and has a periphery, an upper surface and a lower surface. An adhesive coupler is interposed between the upper surface of the glass panel and the lower surface of the applique. The applique is secured to the glass panel by the adhesive coupler. The decorative glass sheet may also include one or more grooves formed in the glass panel. Further, one or more coatings may be disposed on the surface of the glass panel. Preferably, the applique covers the entirety of the portion of the glass panel underlying the applique.

  • Patent number: 5843546
Abstract: A decorative glass sheet and a method and apparatus for forming the same. The decorative glass sheet includes a glass panel having opposed surfaces with at least one decorative band formed in at least one of the surfaces. The decorative band includes a roughed band which provides a frosted appearance. A remaining portion of the surface is not covered by the decorative band. The decorative band contrasts with the remaining portion of the surface to provide a unique visual effect including the simulation of a muntin on the glass panel. In preferred embodiments, one or more straight walled grooves are formed in the surface parallel to and immediately adjacent the roughed band.

  • Patent number: 5840391
Abstract: A decorative glass sheet simulating a multi-pane, camed window or door, and a method for forming the same. The decorative glass sheet includes a glass panel having an outer surface. At least one groove is formed through the outer surface and into the glass panel. Each groove includes a first wall extending from a first peripheral edge to a groove bottom apex and a second wall extending from the apex to a second peripheral edge. The second wall has a width greater than a width of the first wall. At least one decorative caming strip is adhered to the outer surface of the glass panel and is disposed adjacent and along the first peripheral edge of the at least one groove.

  • Patent number: 5811173
Abstract: A plurality of parallel adjacent grooves are formed in at least one surface of a sheet of glass. Each of the multiple grooves has a maximum width dimension of 7 millimeters and a minimum angle between the grooved wall and the plane of the glass surface of 12.degree.. The grooves are formed by affixing the sheet of glass to the conveyor of a grinding machine and subjecting the glass sheet to one or more grinding wheels in which the surface thereof has a plurality of parallel adjacent grooves formed therein of the mirror image of the grooves to be formed in the glass, wherein the grooves are simultaneously cut in a single path.

  • Patent number: 5669951
Abstract: This invention teaches a method for forming a tempered, coated, grooved and/or beveled decorative glass sheet. The decorative glass sheet includes a coating on a surface thereof and a groove or bevel formed in the surface. The coating is substantially registered with at least on peripheral edge of the groove or bevel such that the coating is not disposed within the groove or bevel. The decorative glass sheet is formed by applying a coating, preferably by screen printing, to a surface of the glass panel. The coating is fired so as to set the coating into the glass panel. A groove and/or bevel is formed in the coated surface. The glass panel is then tempered. Preferably, the step of firing the coating is followed by the step of cooling the glass panel at a rate sufficient to temper the glass panel and, more preferably, at a rate sufficient to induce heat strengthening.
