  • Patent number: 5482197
Abstract: A self contained gas powered endoscopic surgical apparatus is provided for placing lateral lines of surgical fasteners into body tissue. The apparatus includes a frame portion, an elongated portion extending from the frame portion, and an articulating cartridge assembly mounted to a distal end of the elongated portion. An anvil member is operatively associated with the articulating cartridge assembly and has a forming surface thereon against which surgical fasteners are driven as they are ejected from the cartridge assembly. A collar which is provided in the elongated portion translates longitudinally to draw a cable which operates to move the anvil member relative to the cartridge assembly, thereby clamping body tissue to be fastened. A self contained pneumatic system is associated with the frame portion and is actuable to eject the surgical fasteners from the cartridge assembly.

  • Patent number: 5400536
Abstract: A gun includes a pivoting barrel assembly, a trigger/hammer double action firing mechanism, and a barrel/inline valve mechanism for firing projectiles. The pivoting barrel assembly includes a projectile-holding rotatable cylinder and an indexing mechanism for rotating the cylinder when the trigger is pulled. A hammer is cocked by a hammer link which is operatively connected to the trigger, and a cam on the hammer lifts the hammer link out of engagement with the hammer when the hammer reaches its cocked position. The valve mechanism includes a valve stem which is slidably mounted in a valve body. A pin portion on the valve stem extends through a valve seal and a valve seal retainer, and the valve seal retainer is retained in the valve body by retainer pins which extend through the body into a groove in the valve seal retainer. A detent housing is connected to the valve body, and a detent is slidably mounted with the detent housing. The detent is engageable with projectile chambers in the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 5285766
Abstract: A gun is provided with a removable rotary ammunition clip assembly and a slidably mounted barrel to permit the clip assembly to be removed if a pellet jams in a position partially out of the clip and partially in the barrel. The clip assembly is an integral unit and includes a cylindrical loader which is rotatably mounted on the clip housing, an index lever and pawl for rotating the loader, and a transfer bar for translating sliding movement of the trigger into pivoting movement of the index lever. Sliding movement of the trigger moves the trigger link against a hammer for cocking the hammer, and the trigger link moves a hammer latch out of a latching position in which it will engage the hammer to prevent accidental discharge.

  • Patent number: 5224465
Abstract: An air gun includes a valve assembly with a sliding baffle for limiting the maximum velocity and energy which can be provided by the gun. The valve assembly includes a valve body which has a pressure reservoir, an air passage, and a valve seat between the pressure reservoir and the air passage. A valve normally closes the valve seat to hold pressure in the pressure reservoir and is moved away from the valve seat when the gun is fired. A bleed opening in the valve body connects the air passage to the outside of the valve body, and an exhaust opening connects the air passage to the barrel of the gun. The baffle is slidably mounted in the air passage and is movable between a first position in which the bleed opening is restricted and the exhaust opening is unobstructed and a second position is which the exhaust opening is restricted and the bleed opening is substantially unobstructed.

  • Patent number: 5165383
Abstract: A gun includes a frame and a pivoting barrel assembly which is releasably latched in a firing position by a pair of flexible and resilient latches on the barrel assembly which engage shoulders on the frame. A trigger is slidably mounted on the frame for movement between a rest position and a firing position. A projectile loader is mounted on the frame at the breech end of the barrel assembly for movement between a loading position and a firing position. The loader is provided with an opening which is aligned with a magazine in the frame when the loader is in the loading position and is aligned with the bore of the barrel assembly when the loader is in the firing position. A camming ramp on the trigger is engageable with the loader for moving the loader between the loading and firing positions as the trigger moves between the rest and firing positions.

  • Patent number: 4774929
Abstract: A gun is provided with a pivoting barrel and a cocking and retaining lever which cocks the hammer and retains the barrel in the firing position. When the lever moves to the unlocking position, the barrel is released and the hammer is cocked. When the barrel is loaded, the barrel is pivoted back to the firing position and the lever is moved to the position to retain the barrel.
