  • Patent number: 5158511
Abstract: The present specification discloses a wheel comprising a central hub and an outer rim interconnected by a web. A pair of annular braking discs are mounted one on each side of the web, each annular braking disc being secured to the web by at least two attachment elements. Each annular braking disc comprises at least two curved segments, each curved segment having two end edge regions, each end edge region of each segment overlapping an end edge region of an adjacent segment so that a continuous annular braking disc with a smooth braking surface is provided. The overlapping end edge regions have sections which extend generally axially of the braking disc in opposite directions, the sections interengaging with each other, with a spring being located between the overlapping end regions to thus bias the overlapping end regions circumferentially with respect to the annular braking disc, to thus securely interengage the segments.

  • Patent number: 5101940
Abstract: The present specification discloses a wheel comprising a central hub and an outer rim interconnected by a web, with a pair of annular braking discs being mounted one on each side of the web by at least two connection assemblies. Each connection assembly comprises a block member adapted to be bolted to the web, the block member having an elongated groove located in one of the side faces of the block member, the groove having an arcuate cross-section, with an elongate pin member engaging in the groove and in an elongate groove of arcuate cross-section provided in the braking disc, the grooves extending generally radially of the braking disc to one side of an aperture provided in the braking disc, over which aperture the block member is located. The opposite side face of the block member is also held by the braking disc in a region of the braking disc on the opposite side of the aperture.

  • Patent number: 5010985
Abstract: A disc assembly for a vehicle disc brake has a rotor with a pair of opposite faces from which are mounted annular braking discs. Each disc is mounted for limited radial movement on a carrier device by fasteners located outside the braking area of the disc; and the disc and the carrier device have complementary radial abutment faces, the carrier device being mounted on the rotor by connectors. The brake torque is transmitted from the discs to the carrier device by the abutment faces and then to the rotor by the connectors. This provides a simple construction which reduces stress on the discs and permits and guides radial expansion of the discs during braking.
