  • Patent number: 4287997
Abstract: A container for transported goods can be carried by a road transport vehicle arranged longitudinally or transversely, its length being approximately equal to its width. Supports fixed under the container define passages to receive, from either end and either side, the arms of a fork-lift vehicle, and further are made for inter-engagement with locating members on the container top so two superimposed similar containers are held in alignment. One end of the container, with a doorway and closure, also has means for releasably locking the container end to end with the corresponding end of another similar container.

  • Patent number: 4139499
Abstract: A process of making an amphoteric polymeric composition which process comprises dispersing particles of an ion exchange resin comprising either weakly basic or weakly acidic ionogenic groups in a solution comprising one or more monomers containing an ionogenic group, or organic precursor thereof, of opposite charge to the ionogenic groups of the ion exchange resin particle, wherein the ion exchange resin particle and the monomer are not of opposite charge, and a crosslinking agent comprising two or more vinylic or allylic groups; secondly polymerizing the monomer to give a macroporous crosslinked polymer matrix; and thirdly treating the polymeric composition to convert any organic precursors to ionogenic groups to form an amphoteric polymeric composition.

  • Patent number: 4124784
Abstract: A system for detecting and reproducing variable-area-type optically recorded audio signals by cyclically detecting substantially only the position of a boundary of the sound track. In one embodiment, the boundary is detected by imaging the boundary onto an array of photosensors and scanning the array to provide an output signal containing a transition corresponding in the time domain to the position of the boundary. The transition signal is filtered and sliced to provide electrical interpolation to improve the resolution substantially over the special resolution of the photosensitive elements of the array. The system may also include a multitrack capability with means for minimizing the effect of film weave.

  • Patent number: 3983665
Abstract: A foldable and transportable home having side walls, foldable end walls and foldable roof sections, which, in their unfolded condition, form a saw-tooth configuration building structure. The two end walls have an upper and a lower portion, the upper portion being hinged to the lower portion and folding inwardly and downwardly. The roof includes two lower and two upper longitudinal roof sections forming a gable configuration, with the two upper sections being hinged to the respective lower roof sections and foldable downwardly relative thereto. The home may be in two longitudinal sections which can be separated from one another for transporting on an undercarriage and which may be removed therefrom when the home is placed in a permanent location.

  • Patent number: 3975949
Abstract: Nuclear reactor fuel rod leakage is determined by measurement of vibrational characteristics of a resilient, flexible means sealed within the upper end caps of the fuel elements. The flexible means, which is preferably a metallic diaphragm, is set into motion and the vibration measurements are made by a special tool which fits over the end cap of the fuel element to be tested.

  • Patent number: 3967382
Abstract: A system for the measurement of the length of the plenum chamber in a nuclear fuel rod, both before and after service in the nuclear reactor. The system basically comprises inserting the fuel rod into a casing having an eddy current sensing coil therein and advancing it until the coil output provides a signal indicative of the end of the plenum spring being centrally located within the coil. At an end of the casing is provided a plenum chamber length transducer of the displacement type, such as a linear variable differential transformer, which contacts the adjacent end cap of the fuel rod and when the coil provides an appropriate readout corresponding to proper location of the plenum spring end produces an output signal which is indicative of the length of the plenum chamber.
