The drive mechanism is provided with a mechanical connection for selectively imparting a reciprocating, scrolling and/or orbital motion to a drive shaft of the jigsaw and/or to a saw blade attached to the drive shaft of the jigsaw during use thereof. The jigsaw includes a support member for selective engagement with a part of the saw blade to provide support to the blade during the reciprocal, scrolling and/or orbital motion.

Abstract: A cutting tool is provided for performing a cutting operation The tool includes a cutting blade provided for movement to perform the cutting operation and a guard which covers at least part of the cutting blade. Abstract: A switch mechanism is provided for the actuation of an electrical switch, the electrical switch being movable between an on position, wherein electrical contact is made, and an off position, wherein no electrical contact is made. The switch mechanism includes a plunger which is movable between first and second positions to move said switch between said on and off positions respectively upon actuation thereof, and resilient biasing means for biasing the plunger for movement from said second position to said first position. The resilient biasing means are provided in a substantially compressed or biased form when plunger is in the second off position.

Abstract: The invention relates to the provision of a power tool such as a jigsaw, circular saw or mitre saw which is provided with guideline generating means. The guidelines are typically generated as laser beams and the invention allows for the generation of at least first and second, side by side guidelines. The guidelines are generated onto the workpiece and the area which lies between the guidelines defines the path along which a cutting blade of the power tool is to be directed. Preferably the guidelines are spaced such that a first guideline lies to one side of the blade and the other guideline lies to the other side of the blade thus allowing the guidelines to be viewable on both sides during the cutting operation.
