  • Patent number: 11959046
Abstract: A method of creating a protective coating on an alkali metal hydroxide-containing solid is provided. The method includes providing carbon dioxide to an alkali metal hydroxide-containing solid and allowing the alkali metal hydroxide and carbon dioxide to react thereby forming a carbonate or bicarbonate-containing layer on the exterior of the solid wherein the carbonate or bicarbonate-containing layer is non-hygroscopic and water soluble, and wherein greater than 80% of the hydroxide in the hydroxide-containing solid does not react with the carbon dioxide, and further wherein the alkali metal hydroxide-containing solid is substantially free of lithium hydroxide. A method of testing for the presence of carbonate-containing coating on an alkali metal hydroxide containing solid is also provided. The method includes exposing the coated solid to 95 weight percent ethanol, collecting the ethanol effluent and testing the effluent for alkali metal hydroxide.

  • Patent number: 8834529
Abstract: A method for mounting a polyaxial screw into a bone includes rotating a drive cap so that a screw mounted to the drive cap is screwed into a bone, the drive cap having a socket in which a portion of the screw is pivotably disposed, at least a portion of a collet being disposed within the socket between the screw and the drive cap. A stabilizing structure and a fastener are positioned onto a shaft projecting from the drive cap. The fastener is advanced along the shaft so as to push a portion of a compression cap against the collet which in turn wedges the collet within the socket of the drive cap and causes the collet to bias against a portion of the screw, thereby locking the position of the screw, the collet, and the drive cap relative to each other.

  • Patent number: 8092503
Abstract: A polyaxial screw system includes a drive cap having a partition wall with a first side and an opposing second side, a passage extending through the partition wall. A sleeve projects from the second side of the partition wall, the sleeve and partition wall bounding a socket. A shaft outwardly projects from the first side of the partition wall. A screw has a threaded portion and a head formed on an end thereof. The head of the screw is at least partially disposed within socket of the drive cap. A collet is at least partially disposed within the socket of the drive cap. At least a portion of a compression cap movably extends through the opening in the partition wall so that the compression cap can selectively move the collet relative to the drive cap.

  • Patent number: 7505377
Abstract: The digital copying machine has a printer, a writer and optionally a disk destruction devise connected to a personal computer by a USB port cable. The computer can select files from its hard drive and place them in a folder for writing on a disk in the digital copying machine. The personal computer can also make copies of a disk in its disk drive or make copies of portions of the disk in its disk drive and add files from the computer hard drive or from memory. The digital copying machine can print on the disks to identify them. The digital copying machine has a robotic arm for removing disks from a stack and placing them in the writer, the printer or on a finished stack. Software in the personal computer can be programmed for the number of copies to be made and what is printed on the disks.

  • Patent number: 7427003
Abstract: The disk feeder removes disks from the bottom of a stack of disks by pushing them one at a time with a ram traveling back and forth under a tower holding the stack of disks. The tower has a gap at the base for allowing one disk at a time to be pushed out by the ram. The tower may be tilted to provide for a stack of disks, which rest partly on a wall of the tower to reduce the weight of the stack on the bottom disk. The workstation fed by the disk feeder can be a disk destroyer, a printer, a writer or any other disk processing device. Combinations of disk feeders and workstations can produce batches of copies of disks with labels printed on them. The disk feeder provides a low cost reliable way to feed disks to work stations.
