Patent number: 11962696Abstract: Systems and methods are described for removing unused encryption key files from a computing device. In an example, a key removal tool can identify three sets of keys to preserve. For the first set, the key removal tool can append a device identifier to known key names and add the resulting key file names to a whitelist. For the second set, the key removal tool can identify keys associated with certificates on the computing device and add their corresponding file names to the whitelist. The third set can correspond to keys created after a cutoff timestamp. The key removal tool can delete all key files with key file names not on the whitelist that were created before the cutoff timestamp.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2021Date of Patent: April 16, 2024Assignee: VMware, Inc.Inventors: Keith Robertson, Sagar Date

Patent number: 11831670Abstract: A server system obtains, for machines in a distributed system, system risk information, such as information identifying open sessions between respective users and respective machines, information identifying vulnerabilities in respective machines; and administrative rights information identifying groups of users having administrative rights to respective machines. The server system determines security risk factors, including risk factors related to lateral movement between logically coupled machines, and generates machine risk assessment values for at least a subset of the machines, based on a weighted combination of the risk factors. A user interface that includes a list of machines, sorted in accordance with the machine risk assessment values is presented to a user.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2020Date of Patent: November 28, 2023Assignee: TANIUM INC.Inventors: Stefan Horst-Guenter Molls, Joshua M. Patent number: 11165774Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments for delegating authentication to certificate authorities. A first request for a certificate is received from a client device. Then a certificate request can be created. The certificate request may include a credential identifier for a certificate authority. The credential identifier may uniquely identify an authentication credential to use to request the certificate from certificate authority. The certificate request can then be added to a message queue. Later, a second request from another computing device is received and the message stored in the message queue is provided in response. A certificate is then received from the other computing device and is provided to the client device in response to the first request.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2018Date of Patent: November 2, 2021Assignee: VMWARE, INC.Inventors: Eugene Liderman, Rahul Parwani, Kiran Rohankar, Keith Robertson
