  • Patent number: 9547829
Abstract: A method for recommending choices to a user comprises receiving data. A first set of recommendation choices based on the data is derived using a first model that models a user's subconscious reactions (i.e., intuition) to the data, and a second set of recommendation choices based on the data is derived using a second model that models the user's consciousness. The first and second sets of recommendation choices are blended using a blending function based on characteristics of a domain of the data to create a third set of recommendation choices that are arranged in an order, which is presented to the user. A conscious decision of the user and subconscious reactions of the user are monitored, and data representing the subconscious reactions of the user and data representing the conscious decisions of the user are appended to a first and second memory space, respectively.

  • Patent number: 9487171
Abstract: A side under-ride collision guard is described configured to be mounted on a large trailer equipped with a sliding rear axle, comprising at least two linear fixed energy absorbing beam structures mounted axially with the trailer and attached to a plurality of support members connecting the beam structures to opposing ends of the trailer's floor beams, and at least two linear telescoping beam structures axially adjustable for position with respect to the fixed beam structures. The guard diminishes the impact hazard to other roadway users that is presented by the lower axial edge(s) of the cargo compartment in the two outboard regions that exist between the trailer's protected regions, which are typically the landing legs or prime mover rear tires to the front and the trailer's sliding axle assembly to the rear of the trailer.

  • Publication number: 20140227397
Abstract: A method for hydrating yeast comprises several steps. A package comprising a thermochromic ink and an indicator is provided. A liquid is provided. The temperature of the liquid is measured by placing the package in contact with the liquid. The liquid is heated or cooled until the thermochromic ink indicates the liquid is within the predetermined temperature range. The liquid and yeast are combined. The package comprises a pouch, a thermochromic ink, and an indicator. The pouch is formed from one or more films sealed together to create an internal space. The thermochromic ink and indicator are arranged relative to each other to indicate when the liquid is within a predetermined temperature range. The thermochromic ink changes color when the liquid is within the predetermined temperature range.

  • Patent number: 8669876
Abstract: An above-water system provides automatic alerting for possible drowning victims in swimming pools or the like. One or more electro-optical sensors are placed above the pool surface. Sequences of images are digitized and analyzed electronically to determine whether there are humans within the image, and whether such humans are moving in a manner that would suggest drowning. Effects due to glint, refraction, and variations in light, are offset automatically by the system. If a potential drowning incident is detected, the system produces an alarm sound, and/or a warning display, so that an operator can determine whether action must be taken.

  • Patent number: 8615490
Abstract: First and second partial files are read from first and second storage media, respectively, irrespective of a sequence in which the first and second storage media were originally written relative to one another. The first partial file forms a first portion of a complete file. The second partial file forms a second portion of the complete file. The first and second partial files are combined to extract and form the complete file, without dependence on re-reading the first and second storage media.

  • Patent number: 8462913
Abstract: A radiation detecting apparatus includes a collimator and a detector, the collimator having a material for blocking radiation and a region that is a sector of an annulus or multiple regions in a configuration in the shape of a sector of an annulus for allowing transmission of the radiation. The detector is spaced a distance from the collimator such that when a radiation source and sample crystal material are positioned at suitable positions, the radiation is collimated by the collimator and contacts the sample a predetermined distance from the detector at multiple of locations corresponding to the region or regions of the collimator. The Bragg diffracted radiation from the crystal material at two or more and preferably all of the locations overlap at the detector.
