  • Publication number: 20020027573
Abstract: If one page of recording is terminated, a carriage moves to a position at which a recording head is located opposite a cap. Then, the ink is discharged through nozzles of the recording head onto temperature detecting element within the cap. Temperature change of the temperature detecting element upon contact with the ink is output from a detecting circuit, and the normal discharge of ink is detected by discharge detecting means. In this way, the decrease in the ink remain or the detection of ink undischarge can be securely made.

  • Patent number: 6130682
Abstract: An ink jet recording apparatus has a recording mode in which recording is performed by selectively discharging black ink and color inks of colors other than black. Any abnormality in the state of discharge of the ink is performed by executing a test discharging operation. When the recording apparatus functions as a facsimile apparatus, the test discharging operation is conducted by discharging only the black ink, without discharging inks of other colors. Wasteful consumption of ink is diminished, so that the running cost of the ink jet recording apparatus is reduced.

  • Patent number: 6059281
Abstract: A sheet feeding apparatus has a support for supporting sheets, a feed roller disposed at a downstream side of the supported sheets and adapted to feed out the sheet by rotating while contacting with the sheet, and a separation roller disposed at a downstream side of the sheet supporting device in the sheet feeding direction and in a confronting relation to the sheet feed device. A slip device generates slip between the feed roller and the sheet within a predetermined range when the feed roller starts to rotate, thereby preventing the feeding of the sheet and rotating the separation roller in the sheet feeding direction.

  • Patent number: 5859653
Abstract: A wheel for maintaining a constant distance between an ink discharge plane of a recording head and a recording sheet is provided on a carriage such that it is upstream of the recording head as viewed in the direction of movement of the recording head in a unidirectional print mode. A sensor monitors whether the recording sheet is moved off a contact of a feed roller which feeds the recording sheet to a record position and a pinch roller. Before a trailing edge of the recording sheet is moved off the contact of the feed roller and the pinch roller, bilateral recording is conducted to print in each of forward movement and backward movement of the carriage. When the sensor detects that the trailing edge of the recording sheet has been moved off the contact of the feed roller and the pinch roller, the recording is switched to unilateral printing. The print range at the trailing edge of the recording medium is thus extended.

  • Patent number: 5721581
Abstract: A facsimile apparatus comprises a facsimile unit for sending data corresponding to image data that has been received, and a printer unit for performing image recording by discharging ink droplets in accordance with data sent from the facsimile unit. A first CPU for the control of the facsimile unit sends, after one page of image data, data in a predetermined pattern and further a paper exhausting command to the printer. A second CPU of the printer unit performs a paper exhausting operation upon receiving the paper exhausting command, after recording of the predetermined pattern, and upon conveying the recording paper up to a predetermined position, sends a signal for starting detection of the predetermined pattern to the first CPU. The first CPU thereby receives a detection signal from a photo sensor. The second CPU further conveys the recording paper, and at a timing of exhausting out of the apparatus, sends a signal for the detection end of the predetermined pattern to the first CPU.

  • Patent number: 5534910
Abstract: In a recording apparatus, an ink sheet and recording medium are conveyed, the ink sheet is activated to perform image recording on the recording medium, the conveying state of the ink sheet is detected, and the conveying amount of the ink sheet is adjusted in accordance with the detected information regarding the conveying state of the ink sheet. This adjustment prevents the adhesion of the recording medium and ink sheet, thereby eliminating image omissions and density irregularities in the recording. Preventing adhesion of the recording medium and ink sheet results in improved image recording quality, and also helps to reduce trouble resulting from the ink sheet or recording medium being cut off.
