  • Patent number: 6446345
Abstract: A rotary cutter for a mower capable of limiting the reeling out of a cord, when the free end of the cord is worn out to only when the rotary cutter is rotated at low speed thereby preventing pebbles or the like from being scattered. The rotary cutter is disengaged without the component parts being separated thereby facilitating reassembly. The rotary cutter includes a cord for mowing grass on being rotated, a reel for containing the cord and reeling out the cord intermittently while being rotated, a cover covering a case containing the reel, and a plunger projected downward from the case and movable in an axial direction by being pressed for intermittently rotating the reel. A ratchet is held at a constant position by an urging element which is moved outward to open against the direction of the urging element by the centrifugal force produced by rotating the rotary cutter at a high speed and is engaged with the plunger to thereby prevent the plunger from moving in the axial direction.

  • Patent number: 6418627
Abstract: A rotary cutter for a mower is provided wherein the cord delivering operation, which is necessary when the free end of the cord is worn, is carried out only when the rotary cutter is rotated at a low speed or is stopped. The rotary cutter includes a cord for cutting grass upon rotation thereof, a reel which holds the cord and allows delivering of the cord while the reel is intermittently rotated, a cover for a case which houses the reel, and a press body which protrudes downwardly from the case and is movable in an axial direction upon pressing so as to intermittently rotate the reel. A return spring for biasing the press body in a direction to protrude the press body from the case between the reel and the press body is also provided. The press body and the case engage each other such that the press body is slidable in an axial direction while preventing relative rotation with each other.

  • Patent number: 6374791
Abstract: An engine starting device includes a self-starting motor drivable to rotate the crankshaft of an engines, and a one-way clutch operable to permit transmission of rotary motion of the self-starting motor in one direction only to the crankshaft. The one-way clutch includes an inner race operatively connected to an output shaft of the self-starting motor, an outer race operatively connected to the crankshaft, a plurality of ratchet pawls pivotally connected to the inner race and urged by springs against the inner race. The one-way clutch is designed such that, when the speed of rotation of the inner race while being rotated by the self-starting motor goes up to a predetermined value, the ratchet pawls are caused to swing in a radial outward direction under the action of centrifugal force against the bias of the springs and become engaged by the outer race to thereby engage the one-way clutch.

  • Patent number: 5676103
Abstract: A recoil starter is provided which prevents malfunction, such as disengagement of a claw, after the engine is started repeatedly even if the starter is not made of a material of high intensity. A spring can be wound substantially precisely circularly. It is quite easy to mount a friction plate to the starter. Furthermore, this subassembly does not loosen after long-term usage. A rope guide can be easily mounted to the starter case, thus reducing the fabrication cost. The recoil starter can be placed and locked in position relative to a fan cover with high accuracy. When the ratchet is in its protruded position, the pivotal point of the ratchet is located radially inside a pulley around the position where the pulley engages the ratchet. A ratchet support portion is formed radially outside the pulley on the reel. The ratchet forms a beam supported at its both ends. The beam acts against a force exerted by the pulley due to a resistance produced when the engine is started.

  • Patent number: 4101878
Abstract: A make-type contact of a relay-type member and a manual switch are connected between a commerical A.C. power supply and a load circuit. The manual switch is turned on only when it is being manually actuated and turned off when it is not manually actuated. A winding of the relay is connected to the load circuit such that an excitation current flows therethroiugh through the load circuit or a control unit, and it is also connected to the control unit for receiving signals from a remote control unit. When the manual switch is turned on through manual actuation, a power is supplied to the load circuit or the control unit to excite the winding-type portion so that the make-type contact is closed to hold the power to the load circuit even after the turn-off of the manual switch. When the control unit, on the other hand receives the signal from the remote control unit the winding-type portion is deenergized to stop the supply of the power to the load circuit.
