  • Patent number: 9054780
Abstract: A radiation power level control scheme for a wireless user equipment (UE) device. In one embodiment, a method comprises determining that a current transmission event involving the wireless UE device is commenced outside a time duration from a last transmission event. If so, responsive to the determining, the method involves disregarding or resetting a power data history associated with the wireless UE device in computing a Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) value for the wireless UE device during the current transmission event. Otherwise, at least a portion of the power data history may be used in computing the SAR values.

  • Patent number: 8995938
Abstract: A radiation power level compliance and control scheme for a wireless user equipment (UE) device including one or more tunable elements. The wireless UE device comprises a component configured to detect one or more changes with respect to at least one operational parameter associated with the wireless UE device. A component is provided for determining that a tunable action is required with respect to at least one of the tunable elements. Upon defining one or more tunable element settings, a component is configured to determine a Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) value, which is compared against an acceptable limit. If the SAR is within the limit, appropriate tuning control signals are provided to the tunable elements according to the defined tunable element settings. If the SAR is not within the limit or is about to exceed the limit, then the tunable element settings may be changed and retested.

  • Patent number: 8803999
Abstract: Tilt imparted to video images captured by a handheld electronic communication device is identified and corrected by the disclosed method and apparatus for image orientation. The handheld device includes image capturing capability and an orientation sensor, which provides a signal representative of orientation relative to gravity to calculate an angle of rotation for the captured images suitable to compensate a difference between the orientation of the handheld device and the orientation relative to gravity. The handheld device also includes a receiver wherein the angle of rotation is recovered and used to determine the changes needed substantially eliminate the difference between the orientation of the captured images and the orientation relative to gravity.

  • Patent number: 8779991
Abstract: Antenna assembly having an electrically or virtually extended ground plane, adapted for use in a mobile communications device, for example. The antenna assembly comprises at least one radiation element having an operating frequency and a ground plane coupled to the radiation element. At least one conductive member is electrically coupled to the ground plane at one or more connection points such that the conductive member forms a loop with the ground plane having a minimum distance therefrom that is less than a predetermined fraction of one wavelength of the operating frequency.

  • Patent number: 8774853
Abstract: A radiation power level control scheme for a wireless user equipment (UE) device. In one embodiment, a method comprises determining a time-average transmission power level, comparing the time-average transmission power level with a first time-averaged transmission power limit threshold, the first time-averaged transmission power limit threshold having a value that depends on a transmission power history for the UE device, and responsive to the time-average transmission power level meeting or exceeding the first time-averaged transmission power limit threshold, reducing a transmission power level of the UE device.

  • Patent number: 8730218
Abstract: Various embodiments include devices, methods, data structures, and software that allow a reflective display device to, among other things, determine color components of a first image, detect an ambient light color composition, and weight one or more of the color components of the first image to provide a compensated image for display on the reflective display device. In one embodiment, the weighting compensates for a difference between the detected ambient light color composition and a specified color balance.

  • Patent number: 8538351
Abstract: A radiation power level control system for a wireless user equipment (UE) device. In one embodiment, the system comprises a tracking component for maintaining a history of power data for the wireless UE device, the power data comprising data tracked over a time window relative to one or more variables on a per transmission event basis. A SAR determining module determines one or more SAR values during a current transmission event involving the wireless UE device, wherein the SAR determining module uses the history of power data if the current transmission event occurred within a predetermined duration from a last transmission event. An adjustment module is provided for adjusting a transmit power level of the wireless UE device if at least one of the one or more SAR values exceeds a threshold.

  • Publication number: 20120293840
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for rendering published documents tamper evident. Embodiments render classes of documents tamper evident with cryptographic level security or detect tampering, where such security was previously unavailable, for example, documents printed using common printers without special paper or ink. Embodiments enable proving the date of document content without the need for expensive third party archival, including documents held, since their creation, entirely in secrecy or in untrustworthy environments, such as on easily-altered, publicly-accessible internet sites. Embodiments can extend, by many years, the useful life of currently-trusted integrity verification algorithms, such as hash functions, even when applied to binary executable files. Embodiments can efficiently identify whether multiple document versions are substantially similar, even if they are not identical, thus potentially reducing storage space requirements.

  • Publication number: 20120247299
Abstract: Operating a power saw between a pair of parallel guide rails, which engage opposing sides of saw base plate to constrain the motion of the saw to a straight path, allows for precise cuts. A set of two or more fences allows for multiple cutting options. In some embodiments, non-parallel fences coupled to the guide rails allow for precise cuts at more than just a single angle. In some embodiments, two fences may engage opposing sides of the object to be cut simultaneously, holding the object more securely with respect to the guide rails than would a single fence. A possible clamping force holding the two fences against the object allows the miter guide to remain fixed relative to the object so that the user's hand may be freed for another task, such as holding the saw with both hands.

  • Publication number: 20120021800
Abstract: A radiation power level control scheme for a wireless user equipment (UE) device. In one embodiment, a power data history associated with the wireless UE device is maintained, the power data history comprising data tracked over a time window (e.g., a sliding time window) relative to one or more variables on a per transmission event basis. A component of the UE device is configured to determine a time-average transmission power level. Another component is configured to compare the time-average transmission power level with a first time-averaged transmission power limit threshold, the first time-averaged transmission power limit threshold having a value that depends on a transmission power data history for the UE device. A still further component is provided, operable responsive to the average transmission power level meeting or exceeding the first time-averaged transmission power limit threshold, that is configured to reduce a transmission power level of the UE device.

  • Patent number: 7955501
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for filtering liquid using a filter platform that is not rigidly affixed to a container containing the liquid to be filtered. The platform may be buoyant so that as liquid flows from one side of the platform, through a filter, and then to the other side of the platform, the platform may move, thus reducing the volume of a container or portion of a container that holds the unfiltered liquid. Alternatively, the platform may be heavier than the liquid to be filtered, may be either set in place on a support structure or else set on top of unfiltered liquid and allowed to sink downward as liquid is filtered. The system may further comprise a flexible membrane that allows two sections of liquid to be separated, even while the platform is moveable.
