  • Publication number: 20080281326
Abstract: Systems, devices and methods are disclosed for treating fractures and other bone maladies. The systems, devices and methods may include one or both of a stabilizing structure, such as an implant, bone plate, or other device and a fastening assembly, such as an engaging member and a compression member. The stabilizing structure in some embodiments has a proximal section with a transverse aperture and a cross-section that may be shaped to more accurately conform to the anatomical shape of cortical bone and to provide additional strength and robustness in its lateral portions, preferably without requiring significant additional material. The fastening assembly may be received to slide, in a controlled way, in the transverse aperture of the stabilizing structure.

  • Publication number: 20080249580
Abstract: An instrument for reduction of a bone fracture is disclosed. The instrument includes an orthopaedic surgical implant (112), an implant member (190, 200, 270), and a driving member (180, 210, 260). The implant member (190, 200, 270) has a bone engagement portion (195, 203, 275) and a driven portion (197, 208, 278). The driving member (180, 210, 260) cooperates with the driven portion (197, 208, 278) to move the implant member (190, 200, 270) and reduce the fracture. Also disclosed is a sliding compression orthopaedic implant (300). The implant (300) comprises a first implant member (310), said first implant member (310) having a transverse hole (311); and a second implant member (312) connected to said transverse hole (311), said second implant member (312) having a shank (314), and said shank (314) having a bone engagement portion (316) at a first end portion (318) and a sliding compression member (320) at a second end portion (322).

  • Publication number: 20050119656
Abstract: An external fixation system having a fixation component (20) comprising: a) a first capture member (24) adapted to capture a second element (26) of an orthopedic fixation system; and (b) a second capture member (22) adapted to capture a second element (28) of an orthopedic fixation system and coupled to the first capture member such that the coupling (86,94,110) allows the first capture member and the second capture member to rotate about three axes relative to each other element and move along that axis; wherein the coupling is adapted to secure the first and the second capture members from rotation with an activation (100); and wherein the second capture member is adapted to capture the second element by snapping onto the second element from substantially perpendicular to longitudinal axis of the second element

  • Patent number: 6712823
Abstract: An apparatus for guiding the resection of the head of a humerus is provided. The apparatus includes a base, a cut block, and a stylus. The guide is used in connection with a reamer or other tool that is inserted into the intramedullary mayal of the humerus with the shank of the reamer extending superiorally above the head of the humerus to establish the axis of the humerus. The base is in rotatable connection with the reamer. The cut block is removably attached to the guide and has a component for receiving a saw blade. The stylus attaches to the cut block, preferably by engaging the component for receiving the saw blade, and extends around the articular margin of the humeral head to aid in setting height and version.

  • Patent number: 6554865
Abstract: A series of humeral stems, each stem including an axial bore and longitudinal slots along the distal end to allow for distal compression. The compression force necessary to compress the distal diameter of each stem varies by stem diameter. Thus, as the stem diameter increases through the series, the compression force decreases.
