Abstract: A method, logic and computer system for determining information regarding at least one printer available to receive a print job from a client computer. A query is transmitted from the client computer to a server via a network for an identification of the at least one available printer. An identification of the at least one available printer is received from the server. A file is downloaded from the server, the file being used to support printing to a selected one of the at least one available printer.

Abstract: An enhanced port monitor is provided for managing communications between a source device and a service device in support of a document/file-handling process. The port monitor can support local printing/storing of files and provide selected files to remotely located service providers. Service providers may, for example, provide printing services, document/content distribution services, etc. The port monitor is configured with an agent process that uploads device-independent data within a file to the service device associated with a selected service provider. The agent process is also configured to launch a browser or like process to provide an interactive interface for the user in selecting particular services/features and providing other additional information as required to the service device. Abstract: A system and method for distributing information. The inventive system is a client-server architecture with software agents running on both the client and server systems. The invention saves time, incorporates email distribution in any application that is print capable, and allows electronic document delivery in multiple formats in addition to the native application document format. The system uses an application's print mechanism running on a client for electronic distribution of documents via email. In the illustrative embodiment, the client agent receives user interfaces from the server that allows document routing by presenting available services (such as print, email, fax, publish, etc.). The user first selects “print” from their application, such as a word processor application. The file is then intercepted by a port monitor that is launched by the printing sub-system of the network operating system.
