  • Patent number: 9927381
Abstract: A sensing device includes a pair of contactless electrodes for placement on a coating on a surface of a structure or within or between one or more coatings on or over the surface of the structure. The electrodes function as sensors when activated to generate a current flow through the electrodes at multiple different frequencies. The sensing device also includes contactless control circuitry co-located with or separate from the electrodes that transmits impedance data generated from the activated electrodes. The impedance data is associated with corrosion condition information of the structure and/or the one or more coatings. • Patent number: 9051558
Abstract: A method of culturing fastidious bacteria where a conditioned cell culture medium is prepared in which eukaryotic cells have been cultured, but where the medium is substantially free of the cultured cells. Fastidious bacteria are cultured in the medium. The conditioned cell culture medium can contain secreted factors from the cells. These factors promote the growth of the fastidious bacteria. The fastidious bacterial culture is maintained for a time period sufficient for the fastidious bacteria to multiply. The fastidious bacteria are analyzed using PCR, DNA sequencing or microbiology characterization.

  • Publication number: 20060257855
Abstract: The present invention provides a biological particle analogue, or biological analogue, that simulates a chosen biological organism or compound. The biological analogue includes a first portion that is not, in and of itself, recognized by the biological detection system, and a second portion, which provides the properties necessary for recognition by the detection system, carried by the first portion. The biological analogue is constructed in such a way as to include some important characteristics of the chosen biological organism or compound, while excluding other undesirable characteristics of the chosen biological organism or compound. The present invention is useful in testing a variety of biological detection systems.

  • Publication number: 20050238632
Abstract: The present invention provides propellant formulations for non-pharmaceutical use in dispersing insoluble particles having biological activity, such as bacterial spores and/or biological analogues, using a dispersion device such as a metered-dose inhaler. It is preferred that the propellant formulations of the present invention are chemically compatible with the biological analogues with which they are to be used, have substantially the same specific gravity as the biological analogues, and have sufficient vapor pressure to prevent agglomeration of the biological analogues. Methods of dispersing said biological analogues in accordance with the present invention are also provided.

  • Patent number: 6830685
Abstract: A filter device made of less expensive material than comparable filter devices heretofore has basic filter components plus some unique design aspects and an additional ring component. The ring provides an interface inside the filter which enables the potting compound to adhere to the filter and create a seal between a first and second fluid compartment within the filter. An embedded region of the ring possesses a detailed geometry which helps ensure that a delamination would be localized and unable to propagate from the first to the second compartment, maintaining the structural integrity of the filter device. To ensure that the sealing interface remains intact and free from delamination, the ring is subjected to a surface treatment, which modifies the surface energy of the ring. This modified surface energy of the ring allows the hydrophilic potting compound to more effectively bond to the modified hydrophobic ring.

  • Patent number: 6710095
Abstract: A polyol composition containing a polyester polyol, at least 5 weight % of a compatibilizing agent, based on the weight of the polyol and compatibilizing agent, and a hydrocarbon blowing agent. The compatibilizing agent is one or a combination of a benzoate glycol adduct, a substituted benzoate glycol adduct, a naphthenate glycol adduct, a substituted naphthenate glycol adduct, a toluate glycol adduct, or a substituted toluate glycol adduct. The hydrocarbon blowing agent is selected from cyclopentane, isopentane, n-pentane, 2-chloropropane; 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane (HFC-134a); 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane (HFC-245fa); and n-propylbromide, or mixtures thereof. The compatibilizing agent improves the miscibility of conventional polyester polyols with hydrocarbon blowing agents. The polyol composition can be reacted with a polyisocyanate to form a foam.

  • Patent number: 5888015
Abstract: A rod gripping device, having a support member with a locking pin hole and a rod receiving hole, where the bores of each hole are situated perpendicular to each other, but parallel to a given plane that bisects the support, and where the bores of the holes intersect to form a common area shared by both bores. When a rod is inserted into the rod receiving bore, so that the rod occupies the common area shared by the bores, a set of angled wedges are situated on either side of the rod, with the wedges being located in the locking pin hole bore. A first wedge has a smooth bore through it, with the second wedge having a threaded bore. A locking pin is inserted through the first smooth bore wedge, which can slide along the shaft of the locking pin to the locking pin handle edge, with the second threaded bore wedge receiving the locking pin's threaded shaft portion.
