  • Patent number: 11874152
Abstract: A technique facilitates fluid flow measurement by providing a meter able to accurately monitor fluid flow of a liquid even if gas is present in the liquid. The meter may comprise a tubing with an internal flow passage and a wedge or other restriction extending into the internal flow passage. A first port is located upstream of the restriction and a second port is located downstream of the restriction to enable monitoring of a differential pressure across the restriction. The differential pressure can be used to determine the desired flow parameter, e.g. volumetric flow. The system facilitates separation of gas from the liquid and utilizes a gas bypass. The gas bypass routes the separated gas past the restriction, e.g. wedge, before directing the gas back into the fluid flow path.

  • Publication number: 20220178368
Abstract: A progressive cavity pump (PCP) system includes a PCP with a rotor rotatably disposed in a stator, a permanent magnet motor, sucker rod(s), and a control system. The rotor is coupled to one of the sucker rods via a high-torque connection that allows for counter clockwise rotation without loosening the connection between the rotor and sucker rod. The control system operates the system in a production mode by rotating the rotor clockwise. Upon manual input by a user, or automatic triggering when protections settings of the control system call for a shutdown or cleanout or when the control system senses an imminent pump shutdown, the control system operates the system in a reverse mode by rotating the rotor counterclockwise. The reverse mode pumps fluids and suspended solid particles down into the well prior to pump shutdown to inhibit the solids from clogging the pump or preventing the pump from restarting.

  • Patent number: 7870900
Abstract: A system and method for controlling the speed of a progressing cavity liquid well pump to increase liquid production from a well while avoiding operation of the well in a pumped-off state. A controller controls a variable speed drive to drive a progressing cavity liquid well pump at a set pump speed while measuring well and system parameters indicative of pumping performance and/or liquid production from the well. The set speed of the pump is changed in steps either increasingly or decreasingly by the controller, acting through the variable speed drive, in response to the measured well and system parameters. The controller, responsive to the measured well and system parameters, challenges the set pump speed by varying the set pump speed so as to increase the production from the well while avoiding pump and well operation in a pumped-off state.
