  • Patent number: 10978904
Abstract: A system for performing computing operations in a data center includes one or more sets of computer systems, one or more primary power systems, and a reserve power system. The primary power systems include a downstream portion that supplies power to at least one of the sets of computer systems. The reserve power system includes switches that switch between supplying a primary power feed and a reserve power feed from the reserve power system through part of the primary power system. An input resiliency switch can switch between supplying primary power or reserve power to support power supplied to the sets of computer systems through the primary power system based upon a primary power feed fault. A power distribution switch can switch between supplying primary power and reserve power to part of the downstream portion of the primary power system to bypass an upstream portion of the primary power system.

  • Patent number: 10608466
Abstract: A power distribution system in a datacenter generates and distributes a pulsed direct current (DC) voltage, instead of alternating current (AC) power or DC power. The system includes an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and a breaker and may include multiple UPS's and multiple breakers. The UPS is configured to receive an AC voltage. The UPS includes a rechargeable battery and a pulsed DC circuit that generates the pulsed DC output voltage to drive a load external to the UPS. The pulsed DC output voltage comprises a periodic waveform including an on phase and an off phase. The UPS generates a timing signal indicative of occurrence of the off phase of the pulsed DC output voltage. The breaker provides the pulsed DC output voltage from the UPS to the load and decouples the pulsed DC output voltage from the load during an off phase upon detection of a fault condition.

  • Patent number: 10455722
Abstract: An external power supply containment unit includes a chassis configured to mount to a structure external to a rack. The external power supply containment unit further includes one or more discrete power supplies mounted in the chassis and one or more electrical connectors that are configured to couple and decouple with a power distribution system of a rack positioned adjacent to the external power supply containment unit. The electrical connectors are configured such that racks of electrical devices, such as computers, can be replaced while the external power supply containment unit remains mounted to the external structure. Additionally, discrete power supply units included in the external power supply containment unit may be re-used to provide power to electrical devices included in a replacement rack when a rack of electrical devices coupled with the external power supply containment unit is replaced.

  • Patent number: 10211669
Abstract: A bypass device is used to bypass one or more automatic transfer switches mounted in an automatic transfer switch cabinet. The bypass device is physically coupled to one or more input power sources and to each respective output connection of a plurality of automatic transfer switches in the automatic transfer switch cabinet. The bypass device selectively feeds electrical power to one or more loads associated with a limited selection of automatic transfer switches to be bypassed. The bypass device comprises a selector device configured to route power from an input power source to respective output connections of the limited selection of automatic transfer switches to be bypassed. A plurality of output breakers are coupled to separate power outlets of each of the plurality of automatic transfer switches to isolate the respective automatic transfer switches.

  • Patent number: 9419394
Abstract: According to various embodiments, a datacenter busbar conductor may be inserted into an opening that is formed between a first conductor and a second conductor of a busbar connection assembly. The busbar connection assembly can be restricted from being removed from the opening that is formed between the first conductor and the second conductor. The busbar connection assembly can be electrically coupled to an electrical power source.

  • Patent number: 9342414
Abstract: A reserve power bus ring links multiple reserve power systems to computer systems in a data center. The reserve power bus ring enables multiple reserve power systems to concurrently provide reserve power support to sets of computer systems. The reserve power bus ring includes portions to which one or more reserve power systems and computer systems are coupled, and isolation devices collectively isolate particular portions of the reserve power bus ring in response to a fault condition in that particular portion, such that that computer systems on other portions of the ring continue to receive reserve power support from the reserve power systems coupled to the remaining portions. A reserve power bus ring may include respective power buses coupling two or more reserve power systems on an upstream side and a downstream side, and isolation devices can break a connection of the power bars to isolate the reserve power systems.
