  • Patent number: 8468744
Abstract: A latch mechanism adapted for being coupled to a window sash, which travels within a window frame, is disclosed which includes a main housing having a sidewall including one or more sidewall sections. The sidewall including one or more sidewall sections extends around at least a portion of the housing and defines an interior space and includes an opening in said sidewall at one end of said housing. The sidewall further defines a channel within the interior space of the main housing, which has an end that coincides with said opening. At least one of the sidewall sections which is substantially parallel to the direction of travel of the bolt is adapted to extend down from the top of the top rail of the window sash along at least a portion of the external surface of a corresponding one of the front facing and the back facing of the top rail. The latch mechanism further includes a bolt, which is substantially located within said housing and travels along said channel.

  • Patent number: 7500330
Abstract: A latch mechanism for a window includes a main housing, a bolt, and a spring. The bolt is substantially located within the housing and is biased by the spring into an extended position. In the extended position, an end of the bolt extends into a side jamb of a frame of the window. The end of the bolt has a protrusion which projects in the direction of travel of a window sash within the window frame and is engageable with a pocket brace located in the side jamb.

  • Publication number: 20070107310
Abstract: A stile latch is provided, which includes a bolt adapted to extend at least partially into a slot, which aligns with the bolt in at least one predefined position along a path of travel of a sash within a frame, while the sash is substantially in plane with the frame, said bolt having a ramped facing, which is adapted to engage an edge of the slot, when the bolt moves from the aligned at least one predefined position toward an unaligned position in at least a first direction of substantially in plane travel. The stile latch further includes a tension device coupled to the bolt, which biases the bolt toward an extended position, and extends the bolt into the slot, when the bolt and the slot are aligned in the at least one predefined position.

  • Publication number: 20060260197
Abstract: A latch mechanism, which is coupled to a window sash that travels within a window frame, is adapted for being coupled to a pocket brace, which extends across the channel opening of the jamb pocket of the side jamb. The latch mechanism includes a main housing, a bolt, and a tension device. The main housing has a sidewall, which includes one or more sidewall sections which extends around at least a portion of the housing and defines an interior space, and has an opening in said sidewall at one end of said housing. The sidewall forms a channel within the interior space of the main housing having an end that coincides with said opening. The bolt is substantially located within the housing and travels along the channel, and has a first end which is adapted for extending through the opening of the housing and extending into the side jamb of a window frame. A first end of the bolt has a protrusion, which projects in the direction of travel of the window sash within the window frame.

  • Patent number: 5697188
Abstract: A window sash balance shoe for use in a tiltable window assembly. The window sash balance shoe is capable of adjusting the frictional force between a window sash and the walls of a guide track sufficient to allow said window sash balance shoe to maintain its vertical position in the guide tracks along the range of vertical positions, but insufficient to prevent the window sash balance shoe from being raised or lowered. The window sash balance shoe has a body having a transverse bore within which a friction adjustment cam resides. As the friction adjust cam is rotated it causes the body to expand within the guide tracks. The window sash balance shoe additionally provides a connector for receiving a pivot bar of a window sash and a connector for receiving a tension device or spring. The connector for receiving a tension device is a hook having a notch formed in the convex side of the hook. The notch provides a point at which the end of the tension device can stretch over the hook and rest within the notch.
