  • Patent number: 10994560
Abstract: The present subject matter describes determination of amount of print media present in an input tray of a printing system. In an example implementation of the present subject matter, a current operating torque of a motor that moves a pick arm for drawing print media from the input tray is monitored. The current operating torque is monitored while the pick arm is moved between a rest position and a pick-ready position. Based on the monitored operating torque, it is determined whether amount of print media present in the input tray is one of below and above a predefined amount of print media.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 31, 2017
Date of Patent: May 4, 2021
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
Inventors: Wei Lit Teoh, Li-Wen Benedict Tan, Eugene Goh, Angel Astorgano-Ballesteros, Ken Ko

  • Patent number: 8199374
Abstract: Disclosed are apparatuses and methods for holding a document sheet in place against a scanning surface of an image capture system. One such apparatus is a document cover comprising: a body that is oriented parallel to the scanning surface when the document cover is in the closed position; a compliant and elastic document backing that is partially attached to the body and configured to reflect light originating from the image capture system; and a backing constraint configured to secure a central region of the document backing to the body and further configured to constrain movement of the central region in a first direction that is normal to the scanning surface while allowing movement in the same direction of outer regions that are lateral to the central region. The document backing generates a downward spring force which biases the outer regions toward the platen.

  • Patent number: 7346206
Abstract: An optical object detector including a feed path, a reference pattern facing the feed path, and an optical sensor configured to view the reference pattern through the feed path, absence of the reference pattern from the view of the optical sensor indicating presence of an object in the feed path.

  • Patent number: 6744813
Abstract: A thresholding noise estimator detects and samples an error signal during a sampling period. When the magnitude of a noise sample, also known as an error sample, is at least equal to a predefined threshold, the power of that error sample is calculated. At the end of the sampling period, the computed powers of the error samples (only those data samples having a magnitude at least equal to the predefined threshold) are averaged. This average power corresponds to an error indicator which quantitatively indicates the power for that portion(s) of an error signal which is at least equal to the threshold. Alternative embodiments provide for magnitude hysteresis, time hysteresis, or both magnitude and time hysteresis in the determination of an error indicator.

  • Patent number: 6287212
Abstract: Lifting golf balls in a vertical tube from a lifting station using spaced apart motorized wheels with finger projections for projecting into side openings in the vertical tube. The golf balls are allowed to fall by gravity from an apex of the vertical tube to a diverter for directing the golf balls to a particular dispenser apparatus.
