Patent number: 6659143Abstract: An apparatus and method for recovering vapor during the dispensing of gasoline via a hose into a vehicle tank, according to which a turbine disposed in a vapor passage and is activated in response to the dispensing of the gasoline for drawing the vapor from the tank and into the vapor passage. Blades on the turbine separate the air from the gasoline vapor. The vapor is returned to the liquid stream and the air discharged to atmosphere. The apparatus therefore does not require vapor return piping to the underground tanks.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2002Date of Patent: December 9, 2003Assignee: Dresser, Inc.Inventors: Ken W. Taylor, Robert G. McKinney

Patent number: 6478849Abstract: A vapor recovery system for a fuel storage tank. The system includes a pair of VOC adsorbent canisters that alternately recover VOC vapors from the fuel tank ullage or are regenerated. Regeneration of the VOC adsorbent canisters is provided by exhausting the VOC vapors from the VOC canisters using a vacuum pump and back into the fuel tank ullage. When the operating pressure of the fuel tank ullage is elevated, an auxiliary VOC adsorbent canister is operated in parallel with the pair of canisters in order to recover the increased amount of VOC vapors in the tank ullage.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 2000Date of Patent: November 12, 2002Assignees: Dresser, Inc., Nitrotec Energy CorporationInventors: Ken W. Publication number: 20020000258Abstract: A dispensing system (10) that utilizes radio frequencies identification capabilities in a service station environment to reliably and accurately detect an on-board vapor recovery (ORVR) system in a vehicle (26). The dispensing system (10) includes a vapor recovery system (33) for recovering fuel vapors responsive to a fuel being dispensed. The vapor recovery system (33) has a disabling mechanism (42) for selectively preventing its operation. The dispensing system (10) also includes an antenna (22A, 22B, 24A, 24B) for detecting a radio frequency signal from a transmitter (23 or 25) in a vehicle (26). The radio frequency signal may be a single bit indicating that the vehicle (26) has the ORVR system, or may include additional bits indicating a type of fuel to be dispensed. When the transmitter (23 or 25) is within a predetermined distance from the antenna (22A, 22B, 24A, 24B), a controller (20) receives the radio frequency signal from the antenna (22A, 22B, 24a, 24B) and asserts a disable signal (41).Type: ApplicationFiled: August 7, 2001Publication date: January 3, 2002Applicant: Dresser, Inc.Inventors: Don C. McCall, Ken W. Taylor

Patent number: 6250691Abstract: A tube/casting assembly and method according to which an axially-projecting cylindrical flange projects from one end of a tubular casting over which an end portion of the conduit extends. A groove is formed in the casting for receiving the end portion and a retainer secures the end portion of the conduit in the groove.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1999Date of Patent: June 26, 2001Assignee: Dresser Equipment Group, Inc.Inventors: Ken W. Taylor, Jerker Delsing

Patent number: 6247615Abstract: The present invention provides a fluid flow system and method according to which the fluid is pumped from a source through a conduit while the flow rate of the fluid is sensed and terminated in response to the fluid flow rate falling below a predetermined minimum. After a predetermined time delay the valve is re-opened to allow flow to resume.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 1999Date of Patent: June 19, 2001Assignee: Dresser Equipment Group, Inc.Inventor: Ken W. Patent number: 6223788Abstract: A multi-product fuel dispensing system includes a plurality of reservoir tanks. Each tank has a specific grade of fuel stored therein. Each reservoir tank has a fuel delivery line connected thereto. A fuel delivery conduit has at least two flow channels. One flow channel is connected to receive a first grade of fuel from one of the fuel delivery lines, and another flow channel is connected to receive a second grade of fuel, of a lower grade than the first grade, from another of the fuel delivery lines. A nozzle has a connection to receive fuel from the fuel delivery conduit. A first proportional flow control and blend valve is connected in the system for receiving the first grade of fuel. A second proportional flow control and blend valve is connected in the system for receiving the second grade of fuel. A meter is connected in the system for receiving the second grade of fuel.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2000Date of Patent: May 1, 2001Assignee: Dresser Equipment Group, Inc.Inventor: Ken W. Taylor

Patent number: 6158289Abstract: A multiproduct fuel dispensing system for dispensing different grade fuels stored in several reservoir tanks. Several fuel delivery conduits deliver a specific grade of fuel from one or more of the reservoir tanks. Plural ultrasonic metering orifices are mounted in a single housing with shared electronic circuitry, and use sing-around measurement to measure flow. Each of the meters has a volume of about 50 cubic centimeters and a flow rate of about 10 gallons per minute. The housing is connected to the conduits to permit measurement of fuel flow through each meter.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1998Date of Patent: December 12, 2000Assignee: Dresser Industries, Inc.Inventors: Ken W. Taylor, David A. Biedermann
