  • Patent number: 7312251
Abstract: Stable rare earth tris (organophosphate) solutions comprise a rare earth tris (organophosphate) and a hydrocarbon solvent. From about 2% to about 10% rare earth element, preferably from about 3% to about 8%, is present in the solutions. The rare earth tris (organophosphate) solutions are stable from precipitation of the rare earth tris (organophosphate) for at least about fifteen (15) days, preferably for at least about twenty (20) days and most preferably at least about thirty (30) days. A process for preparing these solutions is described herein. A stabilizing additive, acid, glycol or mixtures thereof, is utilized to inhibit precipitation. The molar ratios of free acid, glycol and/or water to the rare earth element are controlled to inhibit precipitation.

  • Patent number: 6111082
Abstract: Stable Rare Earth carboxylate liquids having high concentrations of Rare Earths and suitable for use in forming active Ziegler Natta catalysts, are prepared with stabilizing agents such as water and/or acid. The liquids comprise from about 4.5% to about 20% Rare Earth element(s). A novel process for making is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6090926
Abstract: Rare earth carboxylates in solid form are prepared or treated with a solubilizing agent to improve the solids solubility in aliphatic solvents. Other methods, such as treatment of the aliphatic solvent, to improve the solubility of solid rare earth carboxylates in aliphatic solvents are also described. Solubilizing agents identified for use include, but are not limited to, carboxylic acids, poly-acids, glycols, alcohols and mixtures thereof. These processes and treatments are particularly useful in regard to solid rare earth versatate, rare earth neodecanoate, rare earth octanoate, rare earth 2-ethyl hexanoate and rare earth naphthenate compositions.

  • Patent number: 6054563
Abstract: A process for producing solid, powdery carboxylates of Rare Earths (RE) elements, among them mainly Nd, La, Pr and Ce, where the ligands coordinated to the metal are long-chain, branched carboxylic acids is provided. Preferably, the carboxylic acids are selected from the group consisting of: 2-ethylhexanoic, neodecanoic, versatic and naphthenic acids.

  • Patent number: 5783676
Abstract: The invention relates to the production of solid, powdery carboxylates of Rare Earth elements, particularly Nd, La, Pr, and Ce, where the ligands coordinated to the metal are preferably long chain, branched carboxylic acids, most preferably 2-ethylhexanoic, neodecanoic (versatic) and naphthenic acids. The process involves batch precipitation of the product by utilizing Rare Earth water soluble salts, preferably Rare Earth nitrates, and salts of the carboxylic acid and washing the product with water, alcohol, water and alcohol mixtures or combinations thereof.

  • Patent number: 5106959
Abstract: Ceric hydrocarbyl silyloxides are provided, as well as a process for preparing them, which comprises reacting ceric ammonium nitrate with a hydrocarbyl silanol, including a lower aliphatic silanol, under anhydrous conditions in the presence of an anhydrous base at a temperature within the range from about -30.degree. C. to about 200.degree. C. but preferably from 0.degree. to about 150.degree. C. until ceric hydrocarbyl silyloxide and the nitrate salt of the base are formed; the nitrates formed during the reaction can be separated from the reaction mixture and the ceric hydrocarbyl silyloxides isolated pure or as complexes with the solvent, or in some cases the ceric hydrocarbyl silyloxides can be used without separation from the reaction mixture in the presence of the nitrates.
