    Abstract: Salicylanilides of the formula: ##STR1## wherein each of R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 is hydrogen or methyl; R.sup.3 is hydrogen or C.sub.1-5 alkyl; R.sup.4 is hydrogen, nitro or methyl; and R.sup.5 is nitro, methyl, methoxy, ethoxy, methylthio or ethylthio, having utility as antifouling agents but having very low mammalian toxicity.
