  • Patent number: 5376480
Abstract: A gel form negative electrode of an alkaline battery is produced without mercury and enables uniform dispersion of zinc or zinc alloy powder and an effective metal which can be one or more of an oxide or hydroxide of indium, lead, gallium, bismuth. The zinc or zinc alloy powder and the effective metal are drymixed in advance of mixing with a gel form alkaline electrolyte. In order to obtain satisfactorily high vibration strength and impact resistance, fiber material can be added to the gel form negative electrode. The fiber material may be selected among rayon, vinylon, acryl, vinyon, polyamide, polypropylene, polyethylene, mercerized pulp, linter pulp.

  • Patent number: 5348816
Abstract: A method for producing a gel form negative electrode of an alkaline battery while avoiding use of mercury enables uniform dispersion of zinc or zinc alloy powder and an effective metal which can be one or more of an oxide or hydroxide of indium, lead, gallium, bismuth, by stirring for a substantially reduced period. The method employs dry mixing of the zinc or zinc alloy powder and the effective metal in advance of mixing with a gel form alkaline electrolyte. Also, in order to obtain satisfactorily high vibration strength and impact resistance, fiber material can be added to the gel form negative electrode. The fiber material may be selected among rayon, vinylon, acryl, vinyon, polyamide, polypropylene, polyethylene, mercerized pulp, linter pulp.

  • Patent number: 4873149
Abstract: The present invention relates to a vibration-damping metal sheet.Conventional vibration-damping metal sheets such as single metal sheets of Mn-Cu base alloys, etc., and sandwich steel sheets having an intermediate plastic material had individually some disadvantages in connection with critical temperatures for use, heat resistance, weldability, conductivity and other properties. In the present invention, metal plates (1) and (2) are joined together through minute inclusions (3) permitted to be substantially uniformly present therebetween and bit thereinto and, optionally, through the diffusion of a portion of the metal plates into which the minute inclusions are bit. At another portion, the metal plates (1) and (2) only come into contact with each other. Metal or ceramic powders, or wiry or network materials may be used as the minute inclusions (3).

  • Patent number: 4360391
Abstract: A process for producing a coil of a hot rolled austenitic steel strip wherein a hot bar of austenitic stainless steel is hot rolled to a strip by multiple pass rolling with a total rolling reduction and finishing temperature controlled within the hatched area of FIG. 1; and wherein the hot rolled strip is allowed to cool in air for 3 to 10 seconds, cooled with water and then coiled at 400.degree. to 600.degree. C. The product has recrystallization substantially completed and sensitization prevented, and therefore, need not be annealed before it is subjected to a pickling process.

  • Patent number: 4237203
Abstract: In a gasket of a cell comprising a marginal portion, an annular center portion and an intermediate portion integrally formed with each other, the intermediate portion of the gasket has an inwardly projecting annular thin wall surrounding the annular center portion with an annular space therebetween. The annular thin wall has, generally, an inverted frusto-conical shape and is provided at the outer surface thereof with an annular horizontal groove and a vertical groove intersecting with each other.

  • Patent number: 4227701
Abstract: A sealing gasket of a cell comprises a circumferential marginal portion constricted between a metal casing and a terminal plate, a center collar through which a collector metal rod penetrates, and an intermediate portion integrally molded with the marginal portion and the center collar and having a thin wall portion tearable by a stretching force applied thereto. The center collar of the gasket is normally separated from the terminal plate but is movable toward the terminal plate by sliding on the collector metal rod in the event that the internal gas pressure within the cell is abnormally developed, whereby the thin wall portion of the gasket is stretched and torn to release the gas.

  • Patent number: 4166532
Abstract: A package for batteries which comprises a header board and a heat-shrunk thermoplastic film holding the batteries relative to the header board. The header board has a vertical wall and a skirt integrally extending downwardly from the lower end of the vertical wall and covering a portion of the battery. The thermoplastic film covers the skirt and the batteries.

  • Patent number: 4122243
Abstract: In an alkaline battery hermetically sealed by fusion of an insulator containing silicon oxide such as glass interposed between an annular metal cover electrically connected to one electrode of the battery and a metal member connected to the other electrode of the battery, an annular packing is disposed inside the annular metal cover in abutment therewith, and a metal collector plate is connected to the metal member and disposed below the insulator. The peripheral edge of the metal collector plate is tightly held against the inner periphery of the packing to define a closed space between the insulator and the collector plate.
