  • Patent number: 11326834
Abstract: A method of operating, during an at least partial shutdown of a refrigerant distribution subsystem in a natural gas liquefaction facility, can include: draining down at least a portion of a mixed refrigerant in one or more components of the refrigerant distribution subsystem into a high-pressure holding tank of a drain down subsystem, wherein draining down to the high-pressure holding tank is achieved by pumping the mixed refrigerant from the refrigerant distribution subsystem to the high-pressure holding tank or backfilling the refrigerant distribution subsystem with a backfill gas; and optionally, transferring at least a portion of the mixed refrigerant into a low-pressure drum from the high-pressure holding tank.

    Assignee: ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company
Inventors: Brett L. Ryberg, Stephen Wright, Kenichi Tadano, Naoki Watanabe
  • Publication number: 20200056807
Abstract: Liquefied natural gas (LNG) boil off gas (BOG) and/or end flash gas (EFG) can be used to recondense refrigerant vent gas. For example, a method can include: passing LNG BOG through a first condensing heat exchanger and/or passing an EFG from liquefaction system through a second condensing heat exchanger; and condensing the refrigerant vent gas in the first and/or second condensing heat exchangers, wherein (when using the first condensing heat exchanger) the LNG BOG is the coolant in the first condensing heat exchanger and (when using the second condensing heat exchanger) the EFG is the coolant in the second condensing heat exchanger, and wherein (when using both condensing heat exchangers) the first and second condensing heat exchangers are in parallel and not in series.

  • Publication number: 20200056838
Abstract: A method of recycling liquefied natural gas (LNG) boil-off gas (BOG) in natural gas liquefaction plants can include: supplying a feed gas to a liquefaction subsystem; liquefying the feed gas to produce LNG and end-flash gas (EFG); compressing the EFG to compressed EFG; using the compressed EFG as fuel gas; storing the LNG in one or more LNG tanks; compressing LNG BOG from the one or more LNG tanks to produce compressed LNG BOG; and either (1) operating in a recycle mode by supplying at least a portion of the compressed LNG BOG to the feed gas via a bidirectional line, or (2) operating in a fuel mode by (a) supplying a portion of the feed gas to the fuel gas via the bidirectional line and (b) supplying the compressed LNG BOG to the fuel gas.
