  • Patent number: 5861672
Abstract: A nonlinear resistance element of this invention comprises a first conductive layer, an insulating layer, and a second conductive layer stacked in sequence on a substrate, wherein: the first conductive layer is a metal film whose main component is a metal to which is added a chemical element having a valence 1 or 2 greater than that of the main component metal, in a concentration of 0.2% to 6 atom %, and the insulating layer is an anodized layer of the first conductive layer. This nonlinear resistance element is particularly suitable for use as a switching element for an active matrix type of liquid crystal display device.

  • Patent number: 5381158
Abstract: An information retrieval apparatus features a three-dimensional display unit for displaying a set of indexes controlling attributes of a database in a three-dimensional image space in sight of a user with index display images so as to allow the user to visually recognize the set of indexes. An input unit detects motion patterns of the user's body against the index display images as input information and displays the motion patterns in the three-dimensional image space. An arithmetic operation unit recognizes the input information of the motion patterns received through the input unit and performs set logical operations of selected images in accordance with the motion patterns so as to collate and retrieve information from the database. The user can further directly operate index display images in a three-dimensional image space or a two-dimensional image space without the necessity of a keyboard and recognize input information with his body's motion patterns.

  • Patent number: 5287031
Abstract: A movable member is situated within a cylindrical member so as to be axially movable The movable member is supported by a magnetic bearing device in relation to the cylindrical member in a perfect non-contact manner. The cylindrical member and movable member are provided with an electromagnetic force generating mechanism for selectively applying an axial driving force to the movable member in a non-contact manner. The movable member is provided with an auxiliary plate having an inclined surface inclined with respect to the axis of the movable member. The axial position of the movable member is detected by the output of a detector which detects the distance between itself and the inclined surface. On the basis of the detected axial position and an objective position, the electromagnetic force generating mechanism is activated to set the axial position of the movable member.

  • Patent number: 5230665
Abstract: A light driving force transmission apparatus performs driving force transmission without the use of friction and with high lubrication, applicable, for example, in a space environment. A plurality of connection members are secured to an endless rope to form a ball chain. The ball chain is stretched between a pair of sprockets each of which has on the periphery thereof a guide groove for guiding the endless rope and recesses engageable with the connection members. Driving shafts and driven shafts of at least two sprocket pairs are respectively coaxially located. A connecting rod is bridged between the endless ropes by securing the two ends thereof to two opposed connection members. The driving shafts of the sprocket pairs are rotated to cause a specific rotational reciprocating motion of the connecting rod so as to move a hook member of an object in a desired direction.

  • Patent number: 4920551
Abstract: A rotating anode X-ray tube is provided which includes an anode disk having a central axis of rotation and a circumferential peripheral edge lying in a plane perpendicular to that axis of rotation. A ring-shaped target is mounted to the disk adjacent the peripheral edge and the disk includes a mechanism formed integrally solid with the disk and remote from the target for mounting the disk to a support shaft of a rotor within a vacuum housing to permit rotation of the disk about the axis of rotation of the disk. The disk is formed integrally solid along the aforementioned plane, including that portion of the disk coincident with the axis of rotation and the disk has a thickness which increases progressively in a radially inward direction from the peripheral edge, including that portion of the disk between the target and the mechanism for coupling, to counteract a radially inward increase in the disk upon high speed rotation of the disk.

  • Patent number: 4885490
Abstract: The non-contact positioning device is composed of a driven body formed by a magnetic substance which is the subject of positioning, and driving means constructed with electromagnets which support the driven body without contact. The driven body is formed as a simple polyhedron. The electromagnets are arranged facing each of the multiple faces of the simple polyhedron. This non-contact positioning device is constructed to adjust the position of the simple polyhedron by controlling the supply of current to the electromagnets.

  • Patent number: 4583794
Abstract: Two groups of magnetic poles are formed on each end of a columnar yoke. Four magnetic poles of each magnetic pole groups protrude from the center of the yoke at right angles to the longitudinal direction thereof. A ring-shaped magnetic pole is formed on that portion of the yoke between the first and second magnetic pole groups. Ring-shaped permanent magnets are fitted on the yoke between the ring-shaped magnetic pole and the two magnetic pole groups. A cylindrical magnetic field adjusting member is fitted on the magnetic poles and the permanent magnets. Outside of these members, a magnetic coupling member or ring-shaped member of a supported body is disposed coaxially with the magnetic field adjusting member. The magnetic coupling member is formed of a highly permeable magnetic material, and the magnetic field adjusting member is made of a magnetic material whose permeability is a little lower than that of the magnetic coupling member.
