    Abstract: A method for improving the quality of the fragrance of a perfume or a perfume composition by adding thereto a specific perfume controlling agent which improves emission of a perfume or a perfume composition and its tenacity (fixing effect), and which is an aliphatic dibasic acid diester of the general formula:R.sub.1 OCOR.sub.2 COOR.sub.3wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.3, which may be the same or different, each represents a saturated branched chain alkyl group containing 4 or 5 carbon atoms, and R.sub.2 represents a saturated straight chain alkylene group containing 4 carbon atoms, as an active ingredient.

    Abstract: A non-irritating base component useful for cosmetics and topical preparations consisting of 2,6,10,15,19,23-hexamethyltetracosane having a high stability and being very safe for use on skin are hereby disclosed. Said component is synthesized by (a) preparing diacetylene dialcohol by reacting at least one ketone selected from the group consisting of 6,10-dimethylundecan-2-one, 6,10-dimethylundeca-3,9-dien-2-one, 6,10-dimethylundeca-5,9-dien-2-one, 6,10-dimethylundeca-5,10-dien-2-one and 6,10-dimethylundeca-3,5,9-trien-2-one, with acetylene and then subjecting the reaction product to the oxidation coupling, or by reacting ketone with diacetylene and (b) hydrocracking the diacetylene dialcohol directly or after hydrogenation.
