Patent number: 6553791Abstract: An exposed part of at least one of two optical fibers with different mode field distributions to be fusion spliced is heated by a burner, to thereby continuously vary its mode field distribution in the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber, and the exposed end part of at least one of the optical fibers is cleaved so that the mode field distributions at the splice end faces of the two optical fibers to be fusion spliced are substantially coincident with each other in configuration, the two optical fibers are fusion spliced, whereby low splice loss is realized. Thereafter, the heated portion of the optical fiber is subjected to a surface treatment by etching process using a hydrofluoric acid solution, whereby a deterioration of its mechanical strength is prevented. Surface tension of the acid causes the rim of the container to stand up.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 2000Date of Patent: April 29, 2003Assignee: Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd.Inventors: Keiji Osaka, Kenji Fujino

Patent number: 6078137Abstract: A display panel which can reduce the number of external terminals for a fluorescent display tube and has its simplified assembled structure difficult to cause conduction failure. The base substrate of the container for a fluorescent display tube protrudes partially outward. Conductors electrically connected to the electrodes inside the container are derived out from the container to electrically connect to the external electrodes on the substrate. Connection terminals are formed on the substrate. The conductive rubber connector includes a non-conductive portion 39 with a nearly L-shaped cross section in which plural conductive fine wires bent in a nearly U-shaped form are buried at predetermined intervals. The fluorescent display tube is mounted on the upper surface of the printed board. The conductive rubber connector is placed at a predetermined position. The fluorescent display tube and the conductive rubber connector are fixed by means of a fixture.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 1997Date of Patent: June 20, 2000Assignee: Futaba Denshi Kogyo K.K.Inventors: Kazuhiko Tojo, Tatsuya Yoshino, Hiroto Komatsu, Kenji Fujino

Patent number: 5573731Abstract: The electrically heated catalytic converter of the present invention includes a catalyst substrate, which is formed as a scroll-like cylindrical laminated assembly. The assembly is formed by laminating a thin corrugated and plain metal sheets and winding the metal sheets together around a center electrode. The outermost layer of the laminated assembly is connected to an outer electrode. The corrugated metal sheet has an insulating coating made of an alumina, and the plain metal sheet is uninsulated. Local conductive connections form between the thin metal sheets by soldering strips of zirconium solder foils between the layers of the thin metal sheets. Since zirconium has a larger reducing capability than aluminum, the alumina in the insulating coating is reduced by zirconium and precipitates at the local conductive connections. Therefore, the plain and corrugated metal sheet are electrically connected to each other at the local conductive connections.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 1995Date of Patent: November 12, 1996Assignees: Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki Kaisha, Nippon Steel CorporationInventors: Kouji Yoshizaki, Masahiko Ogai, Takuzou Kako, Yuuji Nakajima, Kenji Fujino, Kazunori Itoh, Shohgo Konya, Keiji Sato
