  • Patent number: 6872981
Abstract: A diamond ultraviolet luminescent element (10) having a current-injection light-emitting diode structure includes a high-quality boron-doped p-type diamond crystal (semiconductor layer) (1) synthesized by the high pressure and high temperature method; a phosphorous-doped n-type diamond crystal (n-type semiconductor layer) (3) formed on the first diamond surface by the chemical vapor deposition; an electrode (5) formed on the surface of the n-type semiconductor layer (3); and an electrode (7) formed on the surface of the p-type semiconductor layer (1). The luminescence (235 nm) attributed to the recombination of free excitons resulting from current injection dominates in ultraviolet wavelength region (10).

  • Publication number: 20040155573
Abstract: A diamond high brightness ultraviolet ray emitting element employs the carrier high-density phase of a diamond as a light-emitting mechanism. It includes a diamond substrate, a first diamond layer formed on the diamond substrate, a second diamond layer formed on the first diamond layer and functioning as an emission layer, a third diamond layer formed on the second diamond layer, a first electrode formed on the first diamond layer, and a second electrode formed on the third diamond layer. The second diamond layer constitutes the carrier high-density phase formed by high-density excitation. The combination of the high-density excitation with the high-quality diamond can implement the device that has stable carrier high-density phase, and emission efficiency higher than a conventional device with low-density excitation.

  • Patent number: 6433474
Abstract: A current injection-type diamond ultraviolet light-emitting device is provided that achieves the diamond free exciton recombination radiation by forming electrodes on a high-quality diamond crystal and applying a DC voltage between electrodes to inject carriers. A diamond crystal can be selected in terms of photoluminescent spectrum at room temperature and the half width of the Raman scattering peak intrinsic to the diamond.

  • Patent number: 5729310
Abstract: A lighting apparatus constructed by holding a linear light source, a radiating plate, a reflecting plate, a light guiding plate, a diffusing plate, and a lens between upper and lower frames. One of the upper and lower frames is provided with pins. The other frame, the radiating plate, the reflecting plate, the light guiding plate, the diffusing plate and the lens have holes in locations corresponding to the pins. The upper and lower frames have protrusions and recessions into which the protrusions are fitted, respectively. The lighting apparatus is easily assembled without using vises by fitting the pins into the holes of the respective component members to place them in position and engaging the protrusions and the recessions of the upper and lower frames. Moreover, a harness of the linear light source is inserted into a slit formed on a surface of the upper frame which does not face the linear light source, and fixed by a stopper.

  • Patent number: 4896734
Abstract: Several embodiments of motor vehicles having transversely disposed supercharged engines. In each embodiment, the supercharger is positioned at one end of the engine so as to receive a source of unobstructed cooling air flow into the engine compartment. In each embodiment, the supercharger is driven directly from the engine but at the end opposite to which the normal accessories are driven. In some embodiments, the supercharger is driven from the engine flywheel and in other embodiments, it is driven either from one end of a camshaft or by means of an externally positioned shaft driven from the accessory end. In certain embodiments, the radiator is positioned in an offset relationship so that the supercharger does not receive air that is heated by the radiator and a baffle is provided for precluding against the transmission of heat to the supercharger.
