Patent number: 6877073Abstract: N_Port_Name information capable of distinctly identifying a host computer has seen set in a microprocessor 42 of a storage controller 40 prior to start-up of host computers 10, 20, 30; upon startup of the host computers 10, 20, 30, when the storage controller 40 receives a frame issued, then the microprocessor 42 operates to perform comparison for determining whether the N_Port_Name information stored in the frame has been already set in the microprocessor 42 and registered to the N_Port_Name list within a control table maintained. When such comparison results in match, then continue execution of processing based on the frame instruction; if comparison results in failure of match, then reject any request.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 2004Date of Patent: April 5, 2005Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Akemi Sanada, Toshio Nakano, Hidehiko Iwasaki, Masahiko Sato, Kenji Muraoka, Kenichi Takamoto, Masaaki Kobayashi

Patent number: 6877110Abstract: RAID information and physical position information of hard disk units are managed by a disk controller in a mapped fashion. When the physical position of the hard disk units is changed, the information mapping is retried. Further, the positional information of the hard disk units accommodated in a disk array system under the administration of the disk controller, is calculated so as to form n-dimensional coordinate system information, and the resulting information is stored in each of the hard disk units. When the hard disk units are inserted into the disk array system, the n-dimensional coordinate system information is read from each hard disk unit. If it is detected that there is difference from the current coordinate system information, then information before removal and that after the insertion are compared with each other and a data link is reconstructed.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2001Date of Patent: April 5, 2005Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Katsuyoshi Suzuki, Kenichi Takamoto, Kenji Muraoka, Hidehiko Iwasaki

Publication number: 20040215879Abstract: An administrator is required to prepare in advance LU as a pool area when a user storage area is set to a storage. LU configuration is generally cumbersome and it is not easy for a general user to configure it. A pool manager 1 and a storage 1 setting utility in a management console 1 communicate with a program in a storage 1. The storage 1 sets a pool area having a designated capacity. In response to a volume forming request from the management console 1, the storage 1 sets a designated volume by setting the designated volume as a used capacity of the set pool area. When a volume is formed, a policy is designated to select a storage area having a corresponding attribute from the pool area.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 17, 2004Publication date: October 28, 2004Applicant: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Naoto Matsunami, Yasuyuki Mimatsu, Yoichi Mizuno, Kenji Muraoka, Takashi Oeda

Publication number: 20040111485Abstract: In an environment in which plural external storage devices having different function control interfaces are intermixed, when a function of a storage device is controlled from a computer, a common interface for controlling the function of the storage device is provided. A device that provides the common interface manages an interrelationship between a storage area recognized by a host computer and a storage area provided by the storage device and associates a storage area which becomes a target of a function control instruction with the storage device that provides the storage area. A type of the storage device that provides the storage area which becomes the target of the function control instruction is identified and function control is ordered through a function control interface unique to the device.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 26, 2003Publication date: June 10, 2004Inventors: Yasuyuki Mimatsu, Yasutomo Yamamoto, Kenji Muraoka

Patent number: 6694413Abstract: A method of managing snapshot data of a computer system provided with a computer and a storage subsystem coupled to the computer, and the computer system to which the method is applied, are disclosed. The storage subsystem is provided with the duplicated first and second storage units. In the state in which they are duplicated, when a request to update data is issued to the first storage unit, the storage subsystem writes the same updated data onto the second storage unit. When an acquisition of the snapshot is requested by the computer at any time, the storage subsystem suspends the writing of the writing data for the first storage unit onto the second storage unit thereafter. When the writing of the data onto the first storage unit occurs, the computer holds the location of writing the data as differential information.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2000Date of Patent: February 17, 2004Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Yasuyuki Mimatsu, Naoto Matsunami, Kenji Muraoka, Takashi Oeda, Ikuya Yagisawa

Publication number: 20030225993Abstract: An address translation server recognizes and stores a characteristic of a storage device which forms a memory area. The address translation server creates and issues a command to the storage device by recognizing an access characteristic from a host computer and taking into consideration a characteristic of a storage device to which the command is issued. In addition, the storage device provides a resource which matches a requested access characteristic. An external storage device attributes setting program is provided so that the address translation server can dynamically execute, in accordance with changes in the access status from the host computer, an instruction to change an attribute to a storage device which forms a memory area Furthermore, the storage device incorporates an LU attribute command receiving program which is used to change the internal control for obtaining a requested attribute.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 28, 2002Publication date: December 4, 2003Applicant: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Ikuya Yagisawa, Naoto Matsunami, Yasuyuki Mimatsu, Akihiro Mannen, Kenji Muraoka

Patent number: 6514908Abstract: In the case where a carbon steel shell and tube type reactor is used and, for example, ethylene is subjected to catalytic gaseous oxidation to manufacture ethylene oxide, if rust is formed on the internal surface of the tubes, impurities such as aldehydes are formed. The cause of formation of the rust is that when the catalyst in the reactor is exchanged, dew is formed on the internal surface of the tubes. The present invention provides, as a method for preventing the rust formation, a method which comprises, in conducting the catalyst exchange work, maintaining the temperature of the internal surface of the tubes higher than the dew point at the work atmosphere (for example, filling the shell side with water and maintaining the temperature of the water higher than the temperature of the atmosphere).Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 2000Date of Patent: February 4, 2003Assignee: Nippon Shokubai Co LtdInventors: Yukihiko Kakimoto, Yoshihisa Oka, Kenji Muraoka
