    Abstract: In an organic EL device, a light emitting layer contains a specific coumarin derivative, and a hole injecting and/or transporting layer contains a specific tetraaryldiamine derivative. Also a light emitting layer in the form of a mix layer contains a specific coumarin derivative, a specific quinacridone compound or a specific styryl amine compound. There are provided at least two light emitting layers including a light emitting layer of the mix layer type wherein at least two dopants are contained so that at least two luminescent species may emit light. There is obtained an organic EL device capable of high luminance and continuous light emission and ensuring reliability. Multi-color light emission becomes possible.

    Abstract: An organic EL element of the invention has an organic compound layer, especially a light emitting layer which contains a compound of the following general formula (I): (Ar)m-L wherein Ar is an aromatic-bearing group, m is an integer of 2 to 6, the Ar groups may be the same or different, and L is a m-valent residue of a condensed polycyclic aromatic compound having 3 to 10 rings. Where L is a di- or trivalent residue derived from anthracene, at least one Ar is an aromatic residue derived from an alkynylarene. Where L is a tetravalent residue derived from naphthacene and Ar groups are attached at the 5-, 6-, 11- and 12-positions thereof, all the four Ar groups are not phenyl groups at the same time. The device of the invention sustains light emission of satisfactory luminance, especially at long wavelength for a long time.

    Abstract: The invention provides an organic electroluminescent light emitting device comprising essentially comprising a substrate, a hole injecting electrode formed on at least said substrate, a light emitting layer and an electron injecting electrode containing a constituting material having a work function of up to 4 eV. The electron injecting electrode has a sealing film on a side thereof not opposite to the substrate. This sealing film contains one or two or more of an oxide, a nitride and a carbide of the constituting material for the electron injecting electrode, and so can be relatively easily formed continuously from the electron injecting electrode without any dedicated equipment for sealing films, while maintaining a high sealing effect. The invention also provides a process of producing such an organic electroluminescent light emitting device.

    Abstract: Tetraaryldiamie derivatives of formula (1) are used in organic EL elements. ##STR1## R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, and R.sub.4 represent aryl, alkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, amino or halogen, at least one of R.sub.1 to R.sub.4 is an, aryl group, r1, r2, r3, and r4 are 0 or an integer of 1 to 5, the sum of r1 to r4 is at least 1, R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 represent alkyl, alkoxy, amino or halogen, r5 and r6 are 0 or an integer of 1 to 4. The inventive compounds have high m.p. and high Tg and can be evaporated to deposit tranparent smooth thin films of quality which maintain a stable amorphous state are room temperature over a long term. Organic EL elements using the invertive compound in an organic compound layer, typically a hole injecting and transporting layer thereof provide uniform plane light emission and maintain a high intensity of luminescence in a stable manner over a long term. Thus the elements are fully durable and reliable.
