Abstract: An electronic device includes a disk selection and drive apparatus to select and drive a plurality of disks or other recording media. Cartridges, each housing a recording medium therein, are held in holding areas in a disk container. Support rods of a drive unit are supported by elongated support holes to be movable in the vertical direction. A first drive member and a second drive member, each having inclined guide portions and releasing portions for guiding the support rods, are provided. A rotary member has cams to drive the first and second drive members, respectively. The cams are grooves with arched portions. When a protrusion of the first or second drive members is confined and moved by the cams, the drive unit is positioned opposite a selected one of any of the holding areas. When the first drive member is moved through a predetermined distance in the horizontal direction, the drive unit is moved vertically to access some of the holding areas.

Abstract: A disk-selective disk system is capable of holding a plurality of disks such as compact disks (CDs), mini-disks (MDs), CD-ROM disks, floppy disks, or other types of disks for reproducing and recording data, wherein a selected disk can be ejected from a disk container even if another disk is loaded in the disk drive and is being driven for reproduction or recording. Cartridges each having a disk therein are inserted into a disk container through an insertion slot. A movable base, which moves up and down in a housing, is provided with a drive unit, and any of the cartridges can be taken into a cartridge holder by selective movement of the movable base for reproduction.

Abstract: A cartridge loading device for a disk player which can supply, when a disk tray on which a disk is placed is accommodated in position into a device body of the disk player, the disk readily to a disk driving unit located laterally of an area of advancing and retracting movement of the disk tray.

The cartridge guiding device includes a drawing in member provided in a mounting section of the disk player such that it is driven by a driving source to move toward the interior of the mounting section and is engaged, during such movement, with a stepped portion of a disk cartridge mounted on the mounting section to draw in the disk cartridge toward the interior of the mounting section, and a discharging member provided in the mounting section such that it is driven by the driving source to move toward the outside of the mounting section and is engaged, during such movement, with part of a disk cartridge mounted on the mounting section to discharge the disk cartridge from the mounting section.
