  • Publication number: 20060286451
Abstract: A sealed battery in which an opening of a battery case is sealed with any one of a sealing member via an insulating gasket, and a sealing unit in which a sealing member is crimped inside a filter via an inner gasket. The sealed battery includes a sheet-like gasket placed upon the sealing member so that the battery case is tightly sealed with any one of a combination of the insulating gasket and the sheet-like gasket, and a combination of the insulating gasket, the sheet-like gasket, and the inner gasket, by crimping the opening of the battery case inwards. This secures sufficient space for the compressing while the crimp-sealing is achieved.

  • Publication number: 20060228623
Abstract: A battery pack having a battery in which a battery case and a cap of a sealing plate sealing an open end of the battery case serve as connection electrodes of opposite polarities, a terminal unit including external connection terminals respectively connected to these connection electrodes and an insulating cover integrally formed therewith, the terminal unit covering at least one end of the battery case, and a resilient member interposed between one end of the battery case and the terminal unit in a compressed state. In the manufacturing method of this battery pack, the dimension between the terminal unit and the other end of the battery case is controlled when fixing the terminal unit with the battery case. The battery pack thus has a simple and low cost configuration and yet exhibits high reliability in terms of the connection state of the external connection terminals when set in a portable electronic device.

  • Publication number: 20050106454
Abstract: A circuit substrate (3) being electrically connected to a rechargeable battery (2) is arranged upon a sealing plate (23) with a gap therebetween and united with the rechargeable battery (2) by filling resin in the gap. A primary mold (11) formed by the resin is firmly retained by undercut portions formed in engaging protrusions (26). The engaging protrusions (26) may be formed by welding separate engaging members (126, 126a, 126b, 126c, 66, 68).

  • Patent number: 6861821
Abstract: A battery and a battery pack comprising a rechargeable battery (2) and a circuit substrate (3) integrated therein by a resin mold package (11) are provided. Resin is filled between the rechargeable battery (2) and the substrate (3) electrically connected thereto, so as to unite them as one battery or battery pack. The rechargeable battery (2) includes an engaging member (26) which functions as an anchor to the resin mold package (11) formed onto the battery, whereby the resin mold package (11) is firmly joined to the rechargeable battery (2). A thermo-sensitive element can be incorporated either on the circuit substrate (3) or within the space filled with resin.

  • Publication number: 20040170887
Abstract: The open end of a battery case (1) that houses an electrode assembly (14) is sealed with a sealing plate (3), the top of the sealing plate (3) is closed off with an insulating plate (11), and inside a concave section formed in the sealing plate (3), a positive electrode lead (12) that extends from a positive electrode plate of the electrode assembly (14) is connected in series to a thermal fuse (8) and a PTC element (9) and then to a positive electrode terminal (+). A two fold safety function is provided so that in the case of an external short-circuit across the positive and negative electrodes, excessive current is regulated by a rapid increase in the resistance of the PTC element (9) accompanying the temperature increase, whereas if a temperature increase occurs that cannot be regulated in this manner, the thermal fuse (8) fuses, breaking the circuit.

  • Patent number: 6610437
Abstract: A closure assembly for sealed batteries in which explosion-proof features are incorporated. A metal plate having a hole, an insulating resin sheet, a metal thin sheet, an insulating sheet having an air hole, a metal guide plate having a hole, and a metal cap are laid upon one another within an insulating gasket. Metal plate and metal guide plate are in contact with each other and electrically connected. Upon a build-up of pressure within the battery, the insulating resin sheet expands and ruptures, whereby a narrow part provided in the metal thin sheet positioned above the insulating resin sheet breaks, thus cutting supply of electric current.

  • Patent number: 6524739
Abstract: A protective circuit having an electronic circuit constructed on a circuit board is built into a sealing member that seals the open end of a battery case accommodating electricity generating elements. The circuit board is attached to the outer end of the sealing member. A positive terminal plate that becomes the positive terminal of the secondary battery and an S pole terminal plate that controls the operation of the electronic circuit by an external connection are provided on the outer surface of the circuit board. Thereby, a protective circuit that prevents over-discharging and overcharging is arranged inside the sealing member. A secondary battery is thereby constructed with a protective circuit without resorting to a construction of a battery pack.

  • Publication number: 20010041284
Abstract: A closure assembly for sealed batteries in which explosion-proof features are incorporated. A metal plate (8) having a hole (81), an insulating resin sheet (9), a metal thin sheet (6b), an insulating sheet (4) having an air hole (41), a metal guide plate (3) having a hole (31), and a metal cap (1b) are laid upon one another within an insulating gasket (5b). Metal plate (8) and metal guide plate (3) are in contact with each other and electrically connected. Upon a build-up of pressure within the battery, the insulating resin sheet (9) expands and ruptures, whereby a narrow part (69) provided in the metal thin sheet (6b) positioned above the insulating resin sheet (9) breaks, thus cutting supply of electric current.
