  • Patent number: 4204205
Abstract: An electronic display device comprises a display panel superposed on a printed circuit board with electrodes being disposed on the facing surfaces of both the display panel and the printed circuit board. An electrically conductive rubber connector electrically interconnects the electrodes in a predetermined pattern. The rubber connector is electrically conductive only in the direction normal to the electrodes and is non-conductive in the transverse direction thereby preventing short-circuiting between the electrodes. The connector is comprised of alternate segments of electrically conductive rubber and electrically non-conductive rubber alternately disposed along the transverse direction and each extending in the direction normal to the electrodes between the electrodes for electrically connecting opposed ones of the electrodes on the facing major surface of the display panel and the printed circuit board.

  • Patent number: 4072004
Abstract: An electronic timepiece comprises a digital display device and electronic circuitry including a printed circuit board containing thereon a pattern of printed conductors connected to drive the digital display device. A cover member is disposed atop the timepiece casing and on a side portion of the cover member are mounted a plurality of depressable key switches, the key switches being mounted at a location overlying and spaced from the pattern of printed conductors. An electro-conductive rubber sheetlike member coacts with the cover member for both sealing in a water proof manner the region between the cover member and the timepiece casing and effecting electrical connection between individual ones of the key switches and the pattern of printed conductors in response to depression or actuation of the key switches.

  • Patent number: 4044544
Abstract: An electronic timepiece of the type having a display and a time-correcting switch for effecting correction of the displayed time is provided with a safety switch for enabling and disenabling the time-correcting switch. Whenever the safety switch is switched so as to enable the time-correcting switch, the displayed time on the display panel flashes at one second intervals thereby providing a visual indication of the enabled state of the time-correcting switch to thereby alert the timepiece user that actuation of the time-contacting switch will effect a time correction.

  • Patent number: 4025162
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device comprises a liquid crystal cell comprised of a pair of transparent plates having sandwiched therebetween liquid crystal material and an electrode on one face of one transparent plate. Drive circuitry, in the form of either integrated circuitry or a printed circuit board, is superposed beneath the liquid crystal cell such that the drive circuitry electrode is electrically insulated from the liquid crystal cell electrode. A set of electrically conductive and mechanically resilient gripping members, having a generally C-shape, grip together the liquid crystal cell and the drive circuitry thereby both mechanically and electrically connecting them together without need of any additional connecting parts.

  • Patent number: 4017155
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes a display panel comprised of upper and lower transparent plates having a liquid crystal material sandwiched therebetween. A reflecting plate having a roughened upper surface is disposed beneath the lower transparent plate with the roughened surface facing the lower transparent plate. A light source is located alongside one side edge of the reflecting plate and coacts with a light-reflecting hood which encases the display panel, light source and reflecting plate to direct the light emitted from the light source throughout all portions of the display panel. By locating the light source along the side of the reflecting plate and by employing the light reflecting hood, the resultant liquid crystal display device may be made very thin and therefore suitable for use in wrist watches.

  • Patent number: 3984176
Abstract: Reflective plates for liquid crystal display devices are provided. These plates comprise a composite of a transparent base material as a matrix and having incorporated therein a plurality of small transparent grains or granules. These granules have a different refraction ratio from the matrix material. The reflective composite plate member comprises said matrix and said grains and may have a reflective surface coated or attached to one face of said plate member.Light entering into said composite reflective plate member is refracted by the grains thus providing a distinctive background appearance for the display device into which this plate is incorporated. The light is reflected variably because of the different refractive paths reaching the eye of the observer via the display device.
