    Abstract: Disclosed are cosmetics containing an oily bisdiglyceryl ether compound. This novel compound can be prepared by adding an alkylene glycol, dialkylene glycol, trialkylene glycol or tetraalkylene glycol dropwise to an alkylglycidyl ether using as a catalyst a boron trifluoride ether complex, other Lewis acid, sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide and removing the catalyst with the use of sodium carbonate, calcium carbonate, potassium carbonate, these aqueous solutions or water upon heating, followed by rectification of the resultant oily liquid under reduced pressures. The cosmetics of this type do not cause any dermatitis or skin disease due to the absence of surface active agents.
