  • Patent number: 6997832
Abstract: In a constant horse-power type continuously variable transmission, a pressing force supply path using for a rotation-speed control is supplied to one of an input pulley d an output pulley, and an elastic force supply path using for an axial torque control to the then. However, the one pulley is applied only the pressing force as a control element, although the torque of the other pulley can be regulated by the elastic force, so that the frictional force applied to said one pulley cannot be positively regulated, and consequently, axial torque controls of an input shaft and an output shaft cannot be achieved sufficiently. This effect causes the transmission efficiency to deteriorate at both end ranges of a variable speed range.

  • Publication number: 20040152547
Abstract: Since a pressing force applied to a pulley has the ability to regulate a rotation speed and an elastic force applied to the pulley has the ability to regulate torque, by independently applying the pressing force and/or the elastic force to the single pulley, and externally regulating the pressing force and/or elastic force to arbitrary values independently, a practical speed-change range is widened irrespective of a type of belt and high effective transmission is achieved. The pulley pressure control system comprises pressure application means for applying at least one of a pressing force and an elastic force to each movable disk, in which the pressing force applied to the movable disk regulates a rotation speed of each pulley by shifting a position of the endless belt on the pulley and the elastic force applied to the movable disk regulates torque using a frictional force.

  • Patent number: 6669589
Abstract: Disclosed is a continuously variable transmission in which when a shaft torque is secured by a belt friction force generated by externally pressing a pulley, difficulties of transmission and deteriorations of efficiency caused by short or surplus of the friction force of input and output pulleys are overcome, as a consequence of which the stable friction transmission with high efficiency and widened ratio range can be achieved. The continuously variable transmission includes a first transmission device performing higher efficiency in a big ratio range of the transmittable range than a second transmission device, the second transmission device performing higher efficiency in a small ratio range of the transmittable range than the first transmission device, and a switching device changeably selecting in the alternative the first and the second transmission devices, to combine with the big and small ratio ranges to enlarge an entire transmittable range while keeping high efficiency.

  • Patent number: 6383102
Abstract: In a constant-horsepower transmission having a primary pulley, a secondary pulley and a belt extended between the primary and the secondary pulley, a predetermined frictional force acting between the pulley and the belt is secured by an external instruction, and the pulley is capable of automatic alignment and shock absorption to ensure stable power transmission from the belt to the pulley. A first compressing device compresses an elastic device in response to an external instruction, a first pressing device including the elastic device applies a pressure and an elastic force produced by the compressed elastic device to the belt through the pulley. A predetermined frictional force is secured by the pressure and stable power transmission is insured by the elastic force. A first pressure application controller executes a variable pressure application control operation to apply an optional pressure to the belt by displacing or not moving the movable disk of the pulley.

  • Patent number: 6120400
Abstract: A transmission wheel pressurizing apparatus for always supplying, in a continuously variable transmission of a constant HP transmission type, a pressurizing force and an elastic force to one out of two transmission wheels simultaneously and only a pressurizing force to the other. For securing the desired number of revolutions and axial torque by always applying a variable pressurizing force and an elastic force of the former, an indirect pressurizing system by way of an elastic member is employed. Upon giving pressurizing control to driven transmission wheel, an elastic device and a compression device are combined so that respective pressurizing forces are superposed in series one another, and the pressurizing force to the driven transmission wheel and the number of revolutions of the transmission wheel are made in inverse proportion to one another to realize pressurizing characteristics of negative inclination.
