  • Patent number: 8540976
Abstract: A poly(non-conjugated diene) based sunscreen has a plurality of repeating units where each repeating unit has at least one UV absorbing chromophore that is situated between and connected by chains to two mono-ene units where each UV absorbing chromophore absorb UVA and UVB light. The poly(non-conjugated diene) based sunscreen can be included with a vehicle for application to the skin to prevent sunburn. The poly(non-conjugated diene) based sunscreen can be prepared by acyclic diene metathesis polymerization.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 1, 2010
Date of Patent: September 24, 2013
Assignee: University of Florida Research Foundation, Inc.
Inventors: James Klein Leonard, Kenneth Berry Sloan, Kenneth Boone Wagener

  • Publication number: 20070090942
Abstract: A system is provided for responding to chemical, biological and/or nuclear attacks in large areas such as cities, states and nations. The system protects the public before significant exposure occurs, utilizing a preventive approach rather than a purely reactive approach. Modeling may be conducted to selectively position sensors for the on-going collection of real-time detection data, such as contaminant types and concentrations, weather conditions, terrain data, dispersion data and the like. The detection data is compared to background data and modeled data to detect unsafe contaminant levels and immediately activate a response system. The integrated modeling and simulation component may function to interface with real-time data from the sensors providing integrated real-time plume depiction, prediction, and verification, as well as real-time response and mitigation. This is testable and serves as an advanced redundant scientific control.

  • Publication number: 20050054990
Abstract: A dividing element for a split-tip catheter. The dividing element has a body that may contain openings for disposition on a tip section of a split-tip catheter. The openings are spaced apart by a distance sufficient to ensure separation between tip sections when the body is positioned thereon and may be configured to provide a tension to prevent relative movement of the tip section(s) with respect to the dividing element. The dividing element may be configured for attachment to a packaging tray and/or may contain weakened sections to facilitate detachment from the catheter.

  • Patent number: 5651254
Abstract: A freezable container which uses water that is frozen to keep a beverage cold and which does not require that the beverage be placed into the freezer along with the container filled with water. The freezable container has a sleeve placed concentrically inside the container. The sleeve is held in place by a pair of rods which pass over one another and the rods are secured to both the sleeve and the container. Water is placed between the container and the sleeve and both are placed in the freezer. When the water has frozen, the container is removed from the freezer and the sleeve is removed from the container. Now a beverage container may be placed into the container in place of the sleeve and the beverage will be kept cold by the ice in the container.

  • Patent number: 5092091
Abstract: A concrete control key-joint and divider form made from plastic which is substantially wedge-shaped with vertically spaced holes to receive plastic stakes with the stakes being secured to the plastic form by plastic bolts at substantially its mid-section, so that the form can be easily set to grade and locked to the stakes, then the plastic stakes and bolts can be cut off to form a smooth screeding surface and an expansion joint. The forms also provide transversely spaced holes through which smooth rods or rebar may be inserted to firmly hold the form in a vertical manner and yet allow the concrete slabs to expand and contract. The plastic material is also designed to expand and contract at substantially the same expansion coefficient as cured concrete, thus minimizing the working of the key-joint.

  • Patent number: 4184933
Abstract: A method of forming fuses and two level interconnects including applying a layer of fusible material on an insulating layer and through contact apertures, cleaning said fusible layer by sputter etching, applying a layer of metallic material by sputtering, selectively patterning the metallic layer to form a top layer of contacts and interconnects and selectively patterning the fusible layer to form fusible elements and to form a bottom layer of contacts and interconnects.
