Patent number: 10320015Abstract: Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with fuel cell power management. According to one embodiment, a fuel cell stack includes a plurality of fuel cells producing electric potentials. An electric potential of a fuel cell is measured as a fuel cell voltage. The fuel cell stack further includes a plurality of connection points including a ground, a first connection point, and a second connection point. The first connection point draws a first voltage based on combined fuel cell voltages of a first set of fuel cells of the plurality of fuel cells. The second connection point draws a second voltage based on the combined fuel cell voltages of a second set of fuel cells of the plurality of fuel cells.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2015Date of Patent: June 11, 2019Assignee: The United States of America as Represented by the Administrator of National Aeronautics and Space AdministrationInventor: Kenneth A. Patent number: 8918630Abstract: Controlling a boot operation form an alternate operating system by pressing a single predetermined key or simultaneously pressing a set of unique keys on the keyboard which causes the computer system to reboot using the operating system on an attached drive to be booted. The user can recover operational use of their computer system when the internal system drive suffers a software application or operating system failure. An attached storage device containing a bootable operating system, an application program in the host computer that can detect the pressing of a single or set of unique keys on the keyboard which will then cause the application to process boot files and force a reboot of the operating system with the attached storage device as the boot device.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2010Date of Patent: December 23, 2014Assignee: CMS Products IncInventors: Gary Streuter, Randell Deetz, Kenneth Burke

Patent number: 8762699Abstract: The present invention is an apparatus, system, and method for allowing a user to boot to an alternate operating system by pressing a single button on an externally attached storage device with a push button. The invention helps a user recover operational use of his computer system when the internal system drive suffers a software application or operating system failure. The invention consists of an attached storage device with a push button and supporting electronics capable of formatting and transmitting a recognizable data packet to the host computer and an application program in the host computer that can receive the data packet, process boot files, and force a reboot of the operating system with the attached storage device as the boot device.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 2010Date of Patent: June 24, 2014Assignee: CMS Products Inc.Inventors: Gary Streuter, Randall Deetz, Kenneth Burke

Publication number: 20140129785Abstract: Secure erase of files and unallocated sectors on storage media such that any previous data is non-recoverable. The database contains sets of data patterns used to overwrite the data on different physical media. The software programs manage the overwriting process automatically when a file has been deleted. When de-allocated sectors in the file system are pruned from a file or escaped the file deletion process also finds them. Data will never be found on deleted sectors or on pruned sectors is overwritten.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 6, 2014Publication date: May 8, 2014Applicant: CMS PRODUCTS INC.Inventors: Randell Deetz, Gary William Streuter, Kenneth Burke, James Sedin

Patent number: 8549273Abstract: A backup system on an external bootable personal computer drive that presents a unique and specific wall paper display on the computer monitor when the operating system residing on the drive is booted when the drive is externally attached to the computer system. The invention is used to make it obvious to the user that the original system drive has been replaced by a cloned or imaged drive. The invention consists of a software program and a graphics file. The software program recognizes the case where the drive it resides on has been booted over an external bus and when that event occurs the software program substitutes a specific graphic file for the normal wall paper file used to display the background on the computer display.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 2010Date of Patent: October 1, 2013Assignee: CMS Products, Inc.Inventors: Randell Deetz, Gary William Streuter, Kenneth Burke, James Sedin

Publication number: 20120232587Abstract: A wound closure system comprises a forceps including first and second legs adapted to close into a proximate position in response to a squeezing force applied to the forceps. The forceps also includes a ratchet strip connected to the second leg and passing through an opening in the first leg. The lower edge of the opening is formed as a ratchet pawl for engaging the ratchet strip, thereby providing a ratchet mechanism. Engaging the ratchet mechanism maintains the proximate position of the forceps; rotation of the ratchet strip about the hinge causes it to move upward, thereby disengaging the ratchet mechanism. The forceps may also include a safety latch connected to the first leg by a hinge. Rotation of the safety latch about the hinge inserts a portion of the safety latch into the opening to contact the ratchet strip and thereby prevent disengaging of the ratchet mechanism.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 23, 2012Publication date: September 13, 2012Inventors: Kenneth Burke, Gary Baler

Patent number: 8229579Abstract: Methods and apparatus for configuring process, environmental, industrial and other control systems generate and/or utilize models representing configurations of control systems and/or the systems controlled by them. Records of changes to the models or the configurations represented by them are maintained, thereby, for example, providing bases for determining current states, prior states and histories of changes. Objects in the model have characteristics, such as an object type characteristic and an area characteristic. Users can have corresponding permissions. A security mechanism apparatus controls access by users to the objects. Composite objects are defined by definition objects and are displayed in encapsulated or expanded formats. Objects can include an edit control type identifier that determines how they are presented for editing. Functionality responds to user commands by transferring characteristics of a first object depicted by the graphical user interface to a second object.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 2008Date of Patent: July 24, 2012Assignee: Invensys Systems, Inc.Inventors: Keith Eldridge, Brian Mackay, Mark Johnson, Scott Volk, Kenneth A.
