Patent number: 6934247Abstract: Provided are methods, data communication apparatus and computer programs for managing communications between a remote communication manager and a set of communications managers in an associated group. The group of communication managers have shared access to resources which enable any communication manager in the group to recover from failures experienced by another communication manager in the group. In particular, recovery of failed inbound and outbound channels is achieved with the advantage of improved availability of data transmissions. Preferably, the recovery uses synchronization information to ensure that data is recovered to a consistent state to that channel recovery is achieved without loss of data integrity.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2001Date of Patent: August 23, 2005Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Amardeep Singh Bhattal, Morag Ann Hughson, Neil Kenneth Johnston, Anthony John O'Dowd

Patent number: 6871744Abstract: A solid-liquid mixture is electro-dewatered by apparatus having a conveyor belt for receiving an electric charge and having the mixture deposited thereon and an element above the conveyor belt receiving an opposite electric charge with the conveyor belt an element cooperating to apply a compressive force to the mixture and characterised by the conveyor belt including discrete electrically conducted segments which are permeable to the liquid. The upper element is preferably in the form of a rotary drum or second conveyor belt but it can be in the form of a pressure plate.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 2001Date of Patent: March 29, 2005Assignee: CRC For Waste Management & Pollution Control LimitedInventors: Sarah A Miller, Barry Kenneth Johnston, Christopher Veal

Patent number: 5956858Abstract: Coal or other mineral slurry is dewatered by establishing a bed of the slurry and injecting a gas stream such as air into the bed to establish turbulent flow to strip moisture. This slurry may use particles in the range 0.5 mm to 30 mm with air injected at about 10 m/sec, and suitable novel apparatus includes a centrifuge or a vibratory conveyor with a closed tunnel and transverse air flow for stripping moisture.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 1998Date of Patent: September 28, 1999Assignee: Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial ResearchInventors: Christopher John Veal, Stuart K Nicol, Barry Kenneth Johnston

Patent number: 5580410Abstract: A dispersed dye sublimation imaging method of a substrate includes a pre-conditioning step, before the substrate is imaged, which uses controlled heat and humidity. The pre-conditioning step, by raising the surface energy levels of the substrate and thermally stabilizing the substrate before pressured contact in the imaging zone, allows for more precise control of dye sublimation during image. Pre-conditioning also allows: the use of higher temperature dyes; the use of higher temperatures and shorter dwell times in the imaging zone; and/or the use of lower imaging temperatures. The pre-conditioning also provides for greater migration and penetration of the dispersed dye into the surface of the substrate being imaged. The shorter dwell time and thermally stabilized pre-conditioned substrate also reduces movement between the substrate and dye carrier device, which provides for increased resolution of the imaged substrate.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1994Date of Patent: December 3, 1996Assignee: Delta Technology, Inc.Inventor: Kenneth Johnston

Patent number: 4619095Abstract: An edge mould (36) in the form of an aluminium extrusion, has a male portion (104) and a female portion (106), the latter being defined by at least legs (105, 109). The mould, when attached to a panel edge, enables the panel to be reversible, the male and female portions of abutting moulds mating to locate the two moulds and panels and to provide a sound and drought seal at the join between two panels. The male portion (104) may have a seal (132) in a channel (108) to assist in sealing abutting moulds. Panels using such edge moulds may be used in operable wall systems and in shopfitting systems.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1985Date of Patent: October 28, 1986Assignee: Kenross Nominees Proprietary LimitedInventor: Kenneth A.
