    Abstract: Apparatus for creating an anatomic space in tissue in a body including an introducer device having a tubular member with a bore extending therethrough. A tunneling shaft assembly is slidably mounted in the bore of the introducer device. The tunneling shaft assembly includes a tunneling shaft having proximal and distal extremities. A blunt tip is secured to the distal extremity of the tunneling shaft. A balloon assembly is provided. The balloon assembly is removably secured to the tunneling shaft. The balloon assembly includes a deflated collapsed balloon. A sheath encloses the balloon and is carried by the tunneling shaft. The sheath has a weakened region extending longitudinally thereof permitting the sheath to be removed to release the balloon.

    Abstract: A protective sheath for endoscopes and other elongate medical devices comprises a sheath, a tissue anchor, and a stiffening element or guide. The stiffening element is used to advance the protective sheath through a working channel or other central passage of the endoscope, while the tissue anchor immobilizes a free end of the sheath at a body orifice as the endoscope is introduced. In this way, the protective sheath will drawn from the working channel, evert over a distal end of the endoscope, and remain stationary over the device relative to the body lumen as the endoscope is advanced.

    Abstract: There is disclosed a skin seal and anchoring cannula for use in surgery. The skin seal generally includes a distally extending flexible or compressable member and a latch assembly to secure the skin seal about a shaft of the cannula. Preferably the latch assembly is of an over the center clamp or lock design. The disclosed cannula is preferably a balloon tip cannula having an inflation port and a lumen communicating within the interior of the balloon so as to inflate the balloon. There is also a method of securing a cannula to tissue, preferably an abdominal wall, utilizing the disclosed balloon tip cannula and skin seal.
