  • Patent number: 6922155
Abstract: An information display board system especially adapted for use by travelers and tourists along an interstate highway. The display board is located at a rest stop or other location readily accessible by road travelers and displays a map of the road along which it is positioned and a listing of hotels/motels, points of interest and other lodgings in the region. ID/status indicators are provided which illuminate in one color, i.e., green, to indicate room availability and illuminate in a different color, i.e., red, to indicate room unavailability. Road alert indicators are positioned along the road map and are selectively illuminated to indicate delays or other road conditions. The illumination of the ID/status and road alert indicators are remotely changeable by hotel operators and the road authority, by directly calling a board manager. The board manager includes communication hardware in the form of a programmable computer and telephone control circuitry.

  • Patent number: 6525493
Abstract: A high-instantaneous, low-average current ballast is used in an accelerated weathering apparatus. The ballast includes a DC voltage generator or front end, to generate a high DC voltage, which produces a charging current to charge an arc capacitor. The energy on the arc capacitor is selectively released into a xenon lamp as short, high-current pulses. A starting transformer acts to strike an arc in the lamp. A switch is connected between the capacitor and the lamp, and is used to control generation of current pulses developed for the xenon lamp. A timer is implemented to control operation of the transformer and switch to selectively generate the current pulses for the xenon lamp.

  • Patent number: 5195060
Abstract: An apparatus for detecting a person in a body of water includes a transmitter for generating an electrical swept frequency signal having a frequency that continuously varies between upper and lower limits, at least one pair of transducers disposed in a body of water including a transmitting transducer connected to receive the swept frequency signal for launching a beam of acoustical waves in response to the swept frequency signal in the body of water and a receiving transducer disposed opposite the transmitting transducer for receiving the acoustical waves and for converting received acoustical waves into an electrical received signal, and a receiver connected to the receiving transducer for producing a detected signal in response to the received signal, for producing a threshold signal in response to the detected signal, and for initiating an alarm when the detected signal falls below the threshold for at least a predetermined length of time.

  • Patent number: 4857810
Abstract: A power supply system for discharge lamps employs a current interruption circuit to control current flow through a discharge lamp. A power switch is connected in series with the lamp and controls the current level in the lamp by controlling lamp current on-time. The current on-time is maintained for a relatively very short time period allowing control of lamp current by controlling the integral of the lamp current or controlling the charge delivered to the lamp during each pulse rather than controlling peak current value. Since the voltage impressed across the lamp generally exceeds the conventional value observed when using a passive current limiting means, for example a series reactor, non radiative losses associated with operating the lamp are reduced.

  • Patent number: 4096217
Abstract: Method of using a tristimulus colorimeter including a modified dual slope integrator digital voltmeter which measures the red, blue and green light reflected from a sample and displays the same in digital form as optical density units. The colorimeter includes a light conducting probe with a diffusing member and a movable collar for blocking ambient light, and a rotating color filter wheel is synchronized with the voltmeter for effecting a continuous update of the data displayed thereby. Moreover, a color averaging method provides for prediction of the ultimate color of a mixture of two differently colored porcelains or the like especially used in the construction of artificial teeth or the like.
