  • Patent number: 5432165
Abstract: The present invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions useful for the treatment of subjects suffering from an infection or disease caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). In particular, it has been discovered that the administration of low dosage amounts of 1-(2'-deoxy-2'-fluoro-.beta.-D-arabinofuranosyl)-5-iodouracil (FIAU) to humans chronically infected with HBV is effective to reduce drastically circulating markers associated with HBV. The present invention is also directed to methods of the preparation of pharmaceutical antiviral compositions.
