  • Publication number: 20110048009
Abstract: A method, and associated apparatus, for generating power from medium temperature heat sources in the range of 200° to 700° C. with improved efficiency compared to systems operating on a Rankine cycle in which the working fluid is condensed at the same temperature. Water is heated in a boiler (11) with heat from the heat source A, (22) which may be a stream of exhaust gases (22), in order to generate wet steam having a dryness fraction in the range of 0.10 to 0.90 (10% to 90% dry). The wet steam is expanded to generate power in a positive displacement steam expander (21) such as a twin screw expander. The expanded steam is condensed at a temperature in the range of 70° C. to 120° C., and the condensed steam is returned to the boiler. The expanded steam may be condensed in the boiler of an Organic Rankine Cycle (22) to provide additional power, or by heat exchange with a heater of a heating system to provide a Combined Heat and cycle, thereby further improving the cycle efficiency.

  • Publication number: 20100306052
Abstract: Disclosed is a method, and related apparatus, for directing network service provider selected embedded objects to an internet user client. In the method, a network service provider maintains a database of internet user clients that includes a particular service-type value for each internet user client. The network service provider analyzes an HTTP transaction involving the internet user client. The network service provider responds to an HTTP transaction requesting an embedded web object by forwarding to the internet user client, an alternative embedded web object selected in accordance with the user client's particular service-type value, wherein the alternative embedded web object arrives to the internet user client before a response to the originally requested embedded web object. The network service provider causes the originally requested embedded web object to be forwarded to the internet user client after the alternative embedded web object is forwarded to the internet user client.

  • Publication number: 20100271060
Abstract: A substrate, preferably constructed of a ductile material and a tool having the desired shape of the resulting device for contacting contact pads on a test device is brought into contact with the substrate. The tool is preferably constructed of a material that is harder than the substrate so that a depression can be readily made therein. A dielectric (insulative) layer, that is preferably patterned, is supported by the substrate. A conductive material is located within the depressions and then preferably lapped to remove excess from the top surface of the dielectric layer and to provide a flat overall surface. A trace is patterned on the dielectric layer and the conductive material. A polyimide layer is then preferably patterned over the entire surface. The substrate is then removed by any suitable process.

  • Patent number: 7811542
Abstract: A method for making carbon nanotube particulates involves providing a catalyst comprising catalytic metals, such as iron and molybdenum or metals from Group VIB or Group VIIIB elements, on a support material, such as magnesia, and contacting the catalyst with a gaseous carbon-containing feedstock, such as methane, at a sufficient temperature and for a sufficient contact time to make small-diameter carbon nanotubes having one or more walls and outer wall diameters of less than about 3 nm. Removal of the support material from the carbon nanotubes yields particulates of enmeshed carbon nanotubes that retain an approximate three-dimensional shape and size of the particulate support that was removed. The carbon nanotube particulates can comprise ropes of carbon nanotubes. The carbon nanotube particulates disperse well in polymers and show high conductivity in polymers at low loadings. As electrical emitters, the carbon nanotube particulates exhibit very low “turn on” emission field.

  • Patent number: 7761986
Abstract: A method of probing an electrical device using a membrane probing system having an improved contact. A membrane probe forms a contact having a ridge with a pair of inclined surfaces defining an acute angle such that, when pressed into an electrical pad of a device to be tested, the ridge penetrates into the electrical pad, shearing away any oxide on the surface of the pad. The device may then be tested.

  • Publication number: 20100096265
Abstract: This invention relates generally to cutting single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNT). In one embodiment, the present invention provides for preparations of homogeneous populations of short carbon nanotube molecules by cutting and annealing (reclosing) the nanotube pieces followed by fractionation. The cutting and annealing processes may be carried out on a purified nanotube bucky paper, on felts prior to purification of nanotubes or on any material that contains single-wall nanotubes. In one embodiment, oxidative etching with concentrated nitric acid is employed to cut SWNTs into shorter lengths. The annealed nanotubes may be disbursed in an aqueous detergent solution or an organic solvent for the fractionation. Closed tubes can also be derivatized to facilitate fractionation, for example, by adding solubilizing moieties to the end caps.

  • Publication number: 20100024032
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for effecting an internet user's privacy directive. In the method, copied packets, that are based on original packets sent from a user client, are monitored for a web content request including state information that is not in compliance with a user's privacy directive. Upon detection of a copied packet having a web content request including noncompliant state information, the state information is modified to comply with the user's privacy directive. A replacement packet is forwarded to the user client such that the user client receives the replacement packet before receiving a response packet from a target server of the corresponding original packet. The replacement packet has a redirection with a renewed web content request including the modified state information.

  • Publication number: 20090256829
Abstract: A system and method for detecting sampling frequency in a video signal. A method comprises applying a first test to determine the sampling frequency of the image signal, applying a second test to determine the sampling frequency of the image signal, and verifying the sampling frequency of the image signal. The first test compares detected timing characteristics of the image signal with known timing characteristics of a set of known standard image signals and the second test measures data characteristics of image data in the multiple image frames of the image signal. Combining both detected image characteristics and measured image characteristics based techniques to determine sampling frequency improves the possibility of correctly detecting an image signal's sampling frequency.
