  • Patent number: 5509864
Abstract: A friction torque establishing device and a ring gear are assembled with a positioner ring between a housing of the torque establishing device and the ring gear. The positioner ring has a split sleeve with a living hinge portion which permits the assembly of the ring between the housing and a toothed portion of the ring gear along a hub member. The sleeve also has locator pins and a latch mechanism integrally formed therewith to assure proper location relative to the gear and for latching the ring gear on the hub after assembly.

  • Patent number: 5235899
Abstract: This invention is directed to a new and novel envelope for housing a servo mechanism adapted to control a brake assembly used in conjunction with a vehicular transmission. The envelope is adapted to be demountably received within a receptacle provided in the transmission case. A pilot bore penetrates the transmission case and is located axially of the receptacle. The envelope incorporates a base portion, a cap portion and a coupler portion. A servo-apply pin extends outwardly through the coupler portion of the envelope to be reciprocatingly received within the pilot bore. A piston chamber is provided interiorly of the base and cap portions. An actuating piston is operatively received in the piston chamber, and means are included to effect communication of hydraulic pressure from a conduit within the transmission case, through the coupler portion of the envelope and the servo-apply pin into the piston chamber. Locking means are also provided selectively to secure the envelope to the transmission case.

  • Patent number: 4924729
Abstract: A multispeed transmission has a planetary gear arrangement and two pair of countershaft gears. The countershaft gears are drivingly connectible between the output of the planetary gear arrangement and the output shaft of the transmission. One pair of the countershaft gears provides a rotating reaction for the planetary during one speed ratio and a reduction ratio during at least one other speed ratio. The other pair of countershaft gears provides a reduction ratio from the planetary during the one speed ratio and a single reduction ratio between the transmission input and the transmission output in at least one other speed ratio. The planetary transmission is controlled by clutches and brakes to establish a reduction ratio, a direct drive and an overdrive ratio.
